HORATIO SMITH, OF KIDDERMINSTER, ENGLAND, ASSIGNOR TO WILLIAM MANSELL DAINTREY, OF NEWV YORK, N. Y.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 12,945, dated May 23, 1882. Application filed March 14, 1882. Term of patent 8t years. Patented in England November 27, 1881. No. 374,767.
To all whom it may concern..-
Be it known that I, HORATIO SMITH, of Kidderminster, England, have invented a new and original Design for Carpets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a new and original design for carpets and similar fabrics; and it consists in the novel grouping and eonfigura tion of parts hereinafter more fully described.
The accompanying photograph illustrates a face View of a carpet having my new design.
The stripe A contains ornamentation consisting of the series of figures d, resembling arches supported by pillars at the sides, each arch containing within it a rectangular thronelike figure. From the top of each alternate arch springs a rose-like flower, a, and behind these flowers runs a band ornamented with a series of circular figures.
The stripe B contains the branch f, bearing oblong leaves on each side of a a central stem, also the branch e, having a central stem hearing oblong leavesand two large rose-like flowers and circular buds at and near its end. These branches 6 run across a background composed of parallelograms, showing various designs of checkered and mosaic-like figures.
These figures composing the background are described and claimed in an application for a Design Patent filed by me March 14, 1882, Serial No. 55,303, and therefore I do not here claim them.
The band G contains a series of parallel lines, between which runs a series of semicircular figures.
I claim- 1. The design for carpets, consisting of the stripe A, containing figures a, b, and (1, substantially as shown.
2. The design for carpets, consisting of the figure e, substantially as shown.
3. The design for carpets, consisting of the stripe 13, containing figures e and f, substantially as shown.
4. The design for carpets, consisting of the stripe 'A, containing figures a b d, stripe 13, containing figures e and f, and band C, substantially as shown.
The foregoing specification of my invention signed by me this 30th day of November, 1881.
' HORATIO SMITH.
