Description

vUNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
HENRY HORAN, OF EAST ORANGE, NEW' `JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO HARTFORD CARPET COMPANY, OF HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT.
DESIGN FOR CARPET.
Specilieation forming part of Design No. 1l ,396, dated September 9, 1879 application tiled August 2, 1879.
[Term of patent years.]
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, HENRY HORAN, of East Orange, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and original Design for a Carpet, of which the following is a specification.
The accompanying photograph illustrates my new design.
This invention relates to a new design for carpets, oil-cloths, and analogous fabrics; and consists in the novel grouping and contignra= tion of figures hereinafter more fully pointed out.
A zigzag-shaped iigure, A, traverses the carpet and appears to divide the same into an upper portion, B, and a lower portion, C.
The figure Acontains a series of fern-leaves and some flowers, partly on and over a geometrical groundwork, a. The upper ield, B, contains a fanciful rectangular gnre, b, which somewhat resembles the letter T. Clusters of flowers d and e, with appropriate branches, einbellish the iield B. The lower field C contains within a Jrinci al rectan 0le v 7 c 7 f, a prominent bouquet oftlowers and leaves, g.
The difference between the style and character of the foliage in the three principal subdivisions, A, B, and C, imparts a characteristic appearance to this design.
I claim- 1. The design for a carpet, consisting of the diagonal zigzag figure A, having inclosed geometrical groundwork a., substantially as shown.
2. The design for a carpet, consisting ofthe iield B, having figure b and floral clusters d and c, substantially as shown.
, 3. The design for a carpet, consisting of the iield C, having gure f' and bouquet g, substantially as shown.
i 4. The design for a carpet, consisting of the figures A, B, and C, which are ornamented by i the figures b, d, c, j', and g, substantially as shown.
HENRY HORAN.
