DESIGN FOR A CARPET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 12,474, dated September 13, 1881.
Applicationliiled August 9, 1881. Term of patent 3.1 l years.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HENRY HoRAN, of East Orange, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and original Design for Carpets, of' which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a new and original design for carpets and similar fabrics; and it consists in the novel grouping and configuration ot'gures, hereinafter morefullydescribed.
The accompanying photograph illustrates a face view of a carpet having my new design.
A is a large bouquet of roses, containing also a prominent leat', a, and series ot' projecting fern-leaves, b.- B is another large bouquet,
of roses and other iiowers, having also projecting fern-leaves d. C and D are two other bouquets, ot' roses and other flowers. These four bouquets are placed on a background which is 2o divided into series of iields by straight or angular lines. Thus between iigures A and B is a field, E, containing a ground of crosses, e, and a V-shaped ornament, j', on each cross. Above the gureB is afield, F, containingzig- 2 5 zag lines that form partly-closed squares, the said squares being alternately open at the upper and lower sides, as shown. Adjoining iield F, between igures B and C, is a field, Gr, which is divided into rows of larger and smaller 3o alternating squares, each larger square containing an inner geometrical rosette. Below lield G is a ield, H, which is ornamented by V- shaped igures f, similar to those in held E. Below the field H, and above gnre D, is a lield, l, which is divided into squares g g, each square being traversed by two peculiarly-bent lines, and every alternate square containing a smaller inner square, as shown. To the right of gure A is a field, J, which contains series of double squares connected by diagonal lines, 4o as shown.
I claim- 1. The design for carpets, consisting of the ornamentation of the field E, substantially as shown.
2. The design for carpets, consisting ot' the ornamentation of iield F, substantially as shown.
3. The design for carpets, consisting ofthe ornamentation of eld G, substantially as 5o shown.
4. The design for carpets, consisting of the ornamentation of field H, substantially as shown.
5. The design for carpets, consisting ofthe ornamentation of field l, substantially as shown.
6. The design for carpets, consisting ofthe ornamentation of 'lield J, substantially as shown. l 6o 7. -The design for carpets, consisting of the figures A,B, C,and D, substantially as shown.
