DESIGN FOR FRINGE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 12,748, dated February 7, 1882. Application filed December 10, F381. Term of patent 35 years.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, JOSEPH RESIIOWER and AUGUST HEOK, both residents of the city of New York, in the county and State of New York, have originated and produced a new and Improved Design for Fringe, of which the following is a specification.

Our design consists essentially in a fringe composed of a band or gimp and tufts arranged transversely across the same and projecting beyond the edge thereof. The band or gimp may have longitudinal stripes at the edges and a stripe between the edges, and the portions intervening between the stripes may be composed wholly of transverse threads. The tufts may project separately from the edge of the band or gimp; or they may be connected by scallops, so that their projecting portions will form a scalloped border or marginal portion beyond the edge of the band or gimp.

The accompanying drawing represents a piece of fringe embodying our design.

A designates a band or gimp, which is represented as having a longitudinal stripe, a at each edge, and another stripe, a, between the edges. The portions 1), intervening between the stripes a, may be composed wholly of transverse threads.

B designates tufts,which are arran ged transversely on or in the band or gimp A, and the ends of which project beyond the edge thereof. The ends of the several tufts B may project separately from the edge of the band or gimp independently of each other, as represented at c; or the tufts may be connected beyond the edge of the band or gimp by a succession of scallops, (I, which produce a scalloped border or margin.

This fringe is especially designed for use in ornamenting the edges of cards.

What we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. The design for fringe, consisting of a band or gimp and tufts arranged transversely tothe same and projecting beyond the edge 5 thereof, substantially as described.

2. The design for fringe, consisting of a band or gimp comprising longitudinal stripes, and tufts arranged transversely to the band or gimp and projecting beyond the edge thereof, substantially as herein described.

3. The design for fringe, consisting of a band or gimp composed of stripes and intervening portions formed wholly of transverse threads, and tufts arranged transversely to the 5 hand or gimp and projecting beyond the edge thereof, substantially as described.

4. The design for fringe, consisting of a hand or gimp and tufts arranged transversely to the same and projecting beyond the edge thereof, separately from and independently of each other, substantially as described.

5. The design for fringe, consisting of the band or gimp A, composed of the stripes a and intervening portions 0, and the separate and independent tufts B, substantially as described.
