vBeit known that l. HENRY HORAN. of East Orange. county of lissex, and State ol'Xew Jersey, have iny'ented a new and orginal Design lor Carpets. of which the following is a specilication.

This invention relates to a new and original design t'or carpets and similar l'abrics; and it consists in the novel grouping and contiguration ot' figures hereinafter more l'nily de scribed.

The accompanying photograph illustrates a l'ace yiew ot' a carpet having my new design.

.X is a liower group. composed ofthe ligure (i. ctnisisting of two open roses with theirsurrounding leaves. ot' the ligure l, a'branch with leaves and rose-buds thereon, of the figure K, a tendril with a rose thereon. ot' the tigure R. a tlowering branch. ol' the ligure H. containing leaves and projecting flowers. and of the ligure E. composed of circular liowers, with mosslike foliage around them, all the other figures projecting from the central ligure7 G.

The ligure D is a bunch ot' pointed leaves with llowers between them.

lhe tigure C is a bunch of leaves and flowers somewhat like D.

B is a ower group. composed ol' the cluster of round and pointed leaves L. and ofthe tlowerspray S, and ot' the cluster otl tiowers M, resembling pinks.

The background is formed ot' ligures l?, containing a square pattern alternating with lignres O, containing a rectangular Grecian pattern, the effect being somewhat like that ot' a checker-board.

The whole effect of the design is that of the checkered background, with the llower groups and figures described set upon it in regular order,
