DESIGN FOR A CARPET.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 17,484, dated July 26, 1887.

To all 107mm it may concern:

to it known that I, XVINTImor L. Jaoons, of East Orange, New Jersey, have invented a new and original Design for Carpets, ofwhieh the following isaspccifieation, reference being had to the accompanying photograph, which forms a part; of the same.

The invention relates to a design to be worked into or upon surfaces, sueh'as carpets or similar fabrics; and it consists in the novel configuration and grouping of figures herein specifically shown and elai med.

The main feature of my design consists in the assembling of a number of composite figures or groups, each of which is made up of a number of varied geometric or conventional Forms united by angular stem-work.

Group A is composed of a large t'an shaped fign re, a shield-shaped figure, a number of dia mond -sliaped figures, and smaller circular forms, all disposed irregularly and connected by a fanciful angular stem-work.

Group B (shown at the bottom and the top ofthe photograph) is a long narrow group, and consists of a middle vine or stem having small star-shaped flowers or leaves scattered 'along it, and a fan form, a diamond form, and oval forms with smaller figures clustered around the vine.

the upper left-hand corner ot the photograph) consists of a large circular figure re n'esenting a mass of leaves, whose projecting points form the outline ol'the figure, with smaller circular figures and other geometric forms united by an angular stem or vine work.

Group ll (shown at the middle of the right side of the photograph and at the lower lefthand corner) consists ot a. large central t'anshaped figure, a heraldic form, and smaller oval add circular t'orms eonnected by a vine or angular stem work.

(lroup 1) (shown at; the upper righthand corner and lower left side of the 'ihotograph) consists of a large fan-shaped figure, several leaf figures, and smaller skeleton figures con nected by a vine or stem work.

(lroup It consists of a large partlycrownshaped figure with a smaller one of similar shape and a large variety ot" small eireularand stem shaped figures united by a vine. or stem work.

All of these groups are elearly shown in the photograph in all their details.
