UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES DWYER, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR TO DETROIT STOVE WORKS, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR STOVES.
Specification forming part of Design No. 10, [39, dated August 7, 1877 application filed July [7, i877. [Term of Patent-7 years.]
tions,to which refercnceis made, and in which- Figure 1, Sheet 1, is a perspective view. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the mica door in the combustion-chamber. Fig. 3 is a similar view of a door in the fire-pot section. Fig. 4 is a view of the urn at the top of the stove and its ornaments.
A represents the hollow base-section of the stove, circular in form, above which is the ash-pit section B, surmounted by a polished flange-ring, a, which separates it from a firepot section, 0, which is, in turn, surmounted by a polished flange-ring, b, which separates it from the combustion-chamber D. The lat ter is surmounted by a polished flange-ring,c, supporting tbemagazinesection, E, capped by a top, F, formed by a succession of circular moldings, whose apex is surmounted by an urn, G, between whose handles is pivoted a swing-mirror, H.
Where the heating-stove is provided with an oven, as seen in Fig. l, the oven is formed by carrying upward and rearward an extension of the base-section A and the ring I), between which the sides and ends are mounted, the exit-flue terminating in a collar, d, at the back of the oven. Otherwise the flues arcinclosed in a casing at the back of the fire pot and ash-pit, formed by a rearward extension of their walls.
The basesection is formed by a succession of moldings, terminating in apolished pendent flange, and the lower molding is ornamented with a raised denticulation with a beaded heading.
A nickelcd foot-rest, I, is secured onto the base, but may be omitted.
The ash-pit section is slightly concave, and ornamented by a raised lattice-work, whose members arecrossed between each intersection by short bars.
The fire-pot section is a frustum oi a cone,
springing from an outwardly-beveled basihaving openings, closed by slides, for the iutroduction of a poker to clean the lower part of the fire. This section is provided with doors, each pierced with three rectangular openings with rounded corners, glazed with sheet-mica, and ornamented as seen in Fig.3.
The combustion-chamber is an arched frustum of a cone, divided into four panels or staves, three of which are pierced with openings as large as practicable, in each of which a door is hinged at its lower edge. The door is pierced with four rectangular round-cornered openings or windows, with two oblong mullions above, all of which are glazed with mica.
The frames and stiles of both doors are ornamented with alternating ribs and diamonds,
raised. The principal intersection in the upper doors has a raised diamond-shaped lozcage, and the minor intersections triangles. The heading of this door is a row of raised squares, with a sunken half-prism cut in each.
The turnbuckle of each door has a spray of three leaves on each side, and is nickel-plated and polished.
The magazine or stave section is circular, each stave or quarter forming a panel with a double border of interwoven lines, "ruled between the border lines. A Grecian fret extends around the top of this section.
The ornament of each panel, and also of the oven-door panels, is a square nickel-plated shield, 0, having a plain flat border and a stippied ground, in the center oi'which is the rep resentation of a' crown, surmounted by an eagle above the word Jewel! At each side there is a running flower or vine, and in each upper corner the representation of a fivepointed star.
The top is formed by a succession of moldings, three of which are ornamented by raised denticulatious to match those of the base, while its lower edge is a polished flange-ring.
The urn at the top hastwohigh ly ornamental handles, between which is pivoted a nickelplated oval l'raiue, carrying a mirror on one or both faces. The lace of the urn is ornamented with a nickelcd plate, bearing the initials 1). S. W. above a fanciful pentagon.
Each foot or leg f is cyma-reversa in lUl'lll,
with a polished beveled band at the shoulder and another one at the foot.
The sides are scalloped and ornamented with a raised beaded molding, which extends across the top of the foot-band, and is alsofestooned from undera bead-molding under the top-hand. The face of the foot is also ornamented with a head rosette.
What I claim as my invention is 1. As a designfor a stove, the base A and ring b, extended upward and rearward, with an intermediate sector-ring, a, separating the ash-pit section B and fire-pot section 0, substantially as represented.
2. In a heating-stove, the design for the magazine'section E, substantially as represented.
3. As an urn ornament for a stove, the design for the mirror H, swung between the handles ofthe urn, suhstantially as represented.
4. As a design for a stove leg, theform, out line, and ornamentation of the footf, snbstantially as represented.
5. The form, outline, and ornamentation for a design for a stove, substantially as represented.
JAMES DWYER.
