IMPROVEMENT TN HAND-BARROWS.

Figure 1 is a top or plan view of my improved handbarrow.
Figure 2 is an end view of the same, showing it applied to a barrel.
Similailetters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention has for its object to furnish an improved hand-barrow, designed for use in handling barrels, boxes, and other packages, and which shall be so constructed that it will adj ust itself to various-sized packages; 'and It consists in the hand-barrow constructed as hereinafter' more fully described.
A are the side bars of the hand-barrow, which may be made larger or smaller, according to the size and weight of the packages, for lift-ing which they are designed to be used.
llhe side bars A of the hand-barrow are connected to each other by the bars B, which should be placed at such a distance apart that the barrow may be placed over the barrel or other package to be lifted.
In the middle parte of the side bars A, iu such positions as to bear against the barrel or other package to be raised, are inserted one or more spikes, C, as shown in figs. l and 2.
The bars B are made in two parts, jointed or hinged to each other at or near the centre of said bars.
The ends ofthe bars B are rigidly attached to the Side bars A.
The joint in the bars B not only allows the barrow to adjust itself to various-sized packages, but it also prevents theside bars from being turned by the downward pressure, upon the spikes G, of the package being raised and carried, thus enabling the barrow to clasp the package, and hold it securely.
Having thus described my invention,
I clailn as new, and desire -to secure by Letters Patent- An improved hand-barrow, formed by the combination of the jointed or hinged bars B and spikes O with the side hars A, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
