-DAVID' B. COX, 0F
TROY,- NEW YORK.
Letters Patent No. 92,272', lated July 6, 18369.`
HEARTH-PLATE FOR COOKINGeSTOVES.
.The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom 'lt may concern Be it known that I, DAVID B. Cox, of Troy, in the -county of Rensselaer, and State of New York, have invented an Improved Hearth-Plate for Cooking- Stores; and I do hereby declare that the following is -a fully and exact description thereof', reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part ot' this` speciication- I Figure l being a vertical section, from the front backward, of so much of a cooking-stove as is necessary to show my invention.
Figure 2, a transverse vertical section through the hearth.- s
Figure 3, a perspective view of a cooking-stove, hav-y ing the improved hearth-plate.
Like letters designate corresponding parts iu all of the figures.l
My invention consists in a raised hearth-plate, A,
termed a supplement-al hearth-plate, since-it adds to the-capacity of the sunk hearth beneath, and sup plies defects therein heretofore experienced.
The plate is turned down at the edges a a., in the form of proper mouldings, so as to raise the main central portion l) considerably higher than the edges of the hearth B, which is, or may be, formed as usual.
The raised part is' plain or dat, and the entire plate covers the whole of the hearth, except the mouldings d d at the edges, so that the mouldings of the plate j form a continuation of the ornamentation of 'the hearth, Y
making a handsome finish, and adding lmaterially to the'good appearance of the stove.
But the essential advantage of this raised hearth-y plate consists in the greatly-increased dept-h given to the ash-chamber, so that a much deeper ash-pan may` be used. n
Another advantage is, that the concave form of the hearth-plate renders it less liable to warp out of shape in casting.
There may be a register, f, in the top or middle of the hearth-plate, andthe raised plate affords addi' tional room beneath for the introduction ofthe draught through the hearth. Y
'I do not claim a cover, or closed chamber, situated' to the hearth of a cooking-stove, substantially as and for the purposes herein specied.
' DAVID B. COX.
