TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
.Be it known that I, ALBERT BROWN, of Troy, in the county of Renssalaer, and State of New York, have invented an Improved Hot-Water Reservoir for Cooking-Stoves; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this spe,cification-' Figure 1 being a central, vertical section of my improved reservoir, showing also the manner of connecting it with a cooking-stove.
Figure 2, a similar section of the reservoir, showing the mode of attaching it to a cooking-stove in connection with a warming-closet.
Figure 3, 21. top view of the reservoir alone. I
Figured, a top view of the warming-closet, showing the method of securing it in place under the reservoir and behind the stove.
Like letters designate corresponding parts in all of the figures.
I construct the reservoir B with. a descending or driving-flue, 0, inside thereof, extending; from the top down near to the bottom, and at the bottom communicating with a flue, D, which preferably ascends to the top again to the eXit-pipef, as shown, but might pass out at one side of the reservoir. These two tlues, as repre= sented, are separated by a partition-plate, a. V I I On the top of the reservoir, also, is a horizontal flue, E, which extends over the flues C D and communicates with them. It has a passage through the division-plate c, closed or regulated by a damper or valve, (1,.
so that the draught from the stove may be made to pass down through the flueC and up or out through the flue D, or pass directly along through the flue E to the exit-pipef.
The reservoir may be conveniently arranged behind the stove A, and the fine E, which projects forward from the body of the reservoir, furnishes the means of securing the reservoir in place.
The lower plate, I), of the flue has an opening in it, fitting over the stove-pipe projection on thimble, a, of the stove, as represented in fig. 1, thereby suspending the reservoir, which need not have any other support, except, if desired, a stay projection, h, between it and the back of the stove for it to bear against. 7
In the top plate of the flue E is formed a hole, -g, for the reception of a boiler or other utensil to cook or warm with, or there may be more than one, thus increasing the cooking capacity and convenience of the stove. Thisaperture also serves to give access to the inside of the reservoir-fines.
I arrange the reservoir also in connection with a warming-closet, Gr, behind the stove, as shown in fig. 2. The closet is situated under the reservoir, having legs, Z l, by which itlrests on the floor. The reservoir may rest on the closet and be wholly or partially supported thereby. 'This arrangement raises the reservoir higher than without the warming-closet, as shown; but it is connected similarly with the stove by simply placing a short pipe, 1, between thestove thimble a and the flue E of the reservoir, as shown. I -The closet G may conform to the back-plate m oftho stove, and have projecting ilanches, 1) p, at its edges to slide and be held in grooves, n n, belonging to the stove, as indicated in fig. 4.
What I claim as my invention, and desire tosec'ure by Letters Patent, is-'-' I A hotwater reservoir, having a descending or driving-flue therein, substantially as and for the purpose herein specified. v A
I also claim the projecting horizontal ilue E, for forming a connection between the stove and reservoir-fines and exit-pipe thereof, substantially as set forth.
, I'also claim the suspension of the reservoir by the stove-pipe projection or thimble, substantially as described and as represented in fig. 1.
I also claim the boiler-hole or holes g over the flue-space E, in combination with the-hot-water reservoir, substantially as set forth.
The above specification signed by me, this 21st day of May, 1868.
' ALBERT BROWN.
Witnesses Eon. F. Bnowu, J. S. Bnowx.
