BRUSH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
'ratentecl May 8, 1906.
Application filed Much 8, 1965. serial No. 249.117.
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HARRY WINFIELD GOWEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Halifax, in the county of Halifax, State of North Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brushes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to brushes, particularly shoe-brushes of spherical or globular shape. The body of the brush is provided with suitable means for taking hold of it, preferably such as holes, and is covered with bristles, hair, or other suitable cleaning or polishing material.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a section of a form of my brush. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same.
A is the body; B, the holes in the same; O, the bristles, hair, or other suitable material, and D the lining of the holes.
The bristles or hair around each hole is preferably black, while the rest of the bristles or hair of the brush are white or of some other light color, the object being to distinguish the position of the holes when the same is lying on the floor. The brush is adapted, preferably, for shoes and the bottoms of trousers, and may be thrown in any convenient place upon the floor, such as beneath the desk, where it may be stabbed by an umbrella, cane, or other similar object by inserting the same in one of the holes, thereby secure y attaching the brush and retaining it in position for use.v The holes in the body of the brush are preferably tapered in formthat is to say, the diameter of each hole is larger at the surface of the body of the brush than at the end ofthe hole nearest to the cenlter of the body of the brush. The hole may be lined with metal D, and the body of the brush maybe made of any suitable substance.
Various modifications may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having described this invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a brush, a central body covered with bristles, said central body provided with holes adaptedto receive a holder, said hair around said holes of a different color to the rest of said hair.
HARRY WINFIELD GOWEN.
