Be it known that I, JOSEPH BEAUMONT, of Chambersburg, in theState `of Pennsylvania, have invented n. new and useful Improvement in ltfiangles;` and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification, in whichV Figure 1 is a side elevation, showing the table extended.`

Thisinvention consists i'n the employment of adjustable brackets, in combination with' other-devices, to

regulate the pressure "of the' cylinder offa mangling-machineyas will' hereinafter more fully appear.

To enable those skilled in the art to make anduse'my invention, I now proceed to describe its construction and operation. y V l Similar letters in the drawings refer to like'parts. s Y j A represents an iron frame {fty inches highyor thereahouts, in which is supported a. wooden cy1irider,a, which may be five inches and a. haii' indiameter and thirty inches long. In'the side-pieces ofthe frame A, above and below the bearings of the cylinder a, are slots, Iz, two in each end-piece, in which -slots; are placed the journals of wooden cy1inders,'e c', of similar dimensions to theA cylinder a.

The cylinders e e are kept in contact witlrthc cylinder a by Ineans'of coiled springs, e, one end of each of which is connected withvthejournal ofthe cylinder, and the other endwith'van adjustable bracket, d, which brncketis 'connected withthe frame A by means of set-screws. The cylinder e iskeptin\eontact with the middlecylinderby means of a similar arrangementof coiled springs,lc, and brackets, d.` Bythese means-"the distance between the'middle cylinder and B represents a folding table hinged alt-one side ofthe frame so as to beturned up against the same, and -foldcd or let down and extended. When it isin the latter condition, the table is supported by legs d.

An envelopingeloth, e, is tacked along one end to the surface of the cylinder A, and when extended will` be spread out on thc surface of' the table B. The fabric to be smoothed is laid upon the folding-clothes it lies hus spread out, and by means of suitable gearing the middle cylinder is: turned soas to dra'wthe folding-cloth and fabric with it inward .between the lower and middle cylinder, andflwind them both around said middle cylinder, the fabric being between; the same and the enveloping-cloth, and consequently receivinga pressure, which tends to smooth it. This pressure is augmented by the action ofthe cylindersec, which being forced 'asunder from the cylinder a by the intervention of the fabric and enveloping-cloth necessarily Vcontribute to thesmoothing of the material under pressure.
