Be it known that I, SIDNEY'SQUIBES, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk, and State of Massachusetts, have `invented certain improvements in. Wringing Machines, of which the vfollowing is a full, clear, vand ex act description, reference being had to the accompanying. drawings, making partofthis speciication-,-in which Figure/1 is an end elevation of a wringing machine, with my improvements applied thereto.v I

t is well knownvthat in the use of 'wringing machines of theordinary construction the lower roll becomes worn' beforethe upper roll, andirequently so much so as vto require to be replaced by a new one. To obviate the necessity of this` operatiomand to provide e means'whereby the position of the rolls may be reversed when the'lovver rollis impaired by use, is the object of my invention, which. consists in pivotingto the frame of the wringor that portion of it which ts upon and is secured to the tub, whereby. the rolls may be reversed without removing them from the frame; and in connectionwith the above, my invention consists in projecting one end of the shaft of each roll beyond the fram-e, and so forming it as to receive a crank, by which the lower roll may be turned. l l Y To enable'others skilled in the art to'understand and use my invention, I will proceed to describe the manner in which I have carried it out.

The sides of the framework are secured together by means of connecting-rods B and pins a, and are provided with slotsib for the'reception of the ends of the shafts (l D oi' the rubber rolls E F, the slots being made ofsuiiicient size to allow the endsoot' the shafts to move up and down freely therein, one endV of each shaft projecting ont beyond the framework, and being provided with .a screw-thread, c,by which construction, when the lower roll-is impaired from use, the upper roll may be substituted therefor, and a'crank maybe applied thereto in a convenient and expeditious manner. The sides of the frame are open from without to receive and obtain ready access to the mechanism which regulates the pressure upon.r the clothes as they are passed between the rolls. Between eachend of the shafts and the top and bottom of each side of the frame are placed two metal plates, cl e, between which is placed a block of rubber, which serves as aspringf, which iscompressed by turning down a screw, G, which passes through the top or bottom of cach side of the frame A, and bears against the plate d, the inside of the screw G being bored ont to t over a stud or projection, g, (see iig. 2,) .formedon the plate c, which bears on the end pf each of the shafts,4 by which means the plates d e and spring j' are kept in place as the upper-roll is pressed down upon the clothes. Near the centre of the outer edge ot` each side of the frame is pivoted at L the upper ends of the portion Hof the frame which tits upon the edge of the tub, and to which it is secured by tightening tho screw I. After each portion, H, is swung over, it is keyed in place by means oi" a long rod, J, the extremities of which are bent, and pass through holes t' in the side of thefrarne A, and into holesj formed in the portion H; this rod, J, being kept in position by being sprung under a projection, k, of the frame. By the abovedescribed construction, when the lower roll is worn by use, thc portions I may be swung over on their pivots, 7L, to the position seen in red, tig. 1, when the upper roll is brought underneath, and the crank attached thereto in a convenient manner, thereby avoiding the necessity ot' removing the pins a, and taking the rolls out of the frame. l f

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure byV Letters Patent, is-

Iivoting the'portions H' to the frame A, so that their position canbe reversed for the purpose described.

I also claim, inl combination with the above, projecting one end of both shaft-s C D of a wringing machine beyond its frame, so that wh'entth'e portions H are reversed, and* the position oi' the rolls thereby changed, thc i crank may be applied to the lower shaft, as and for the purpose set forth. i
