Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
IMPROVED TOOL SUP'PORTER OR RACK.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 70,968, dated November 19, 1867.
To all whom tt may concern:
Be it known that I, ZENAs M. CRANE, of Dalton, in the county of Berkshire and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Tool Supporter or Rack and I do hereby declare the same to be fully described in the following specification, and represented in the accompanying drawings, of which- Figure l is a top view, and Fig. 2 a sideelevation, of it.
In such drawings,A denotes a bent lever or arm applied to a plate, B, by means of a fulcrum or pin, a, the said arm being to turn freely on the pin.
Through the upright part d of the arm or lever a male screw,f, provided with a tooth or wedge, e, is screwed, itbeing arranged in n1anner as represented. The tooth points toward` ajaw or projection, g, which is extended from the plate B. Over the tooth the lever is bent toward and so as to rest against the jaw, this bend or part of the lever being shown ath, and being for a specied purpose. By means of the screw f the tooth e maybe adjusted nearer to or farther from the jaw g, as occasion may require.
The devices so made, arranged, and applied together constitute what I term a tool supporter or rack, Whose object. or purpose is to seize and hold between thejaw and the tooth the handle of a garden-tool or broom or other article, in order to support snob against. a wall or fence, to which the plate B of the supporter may be fastened.
By pushing the end of the tool-handle up against the tooth e, and between it and the jaw, so as to force up the lever, on letting go the Isaid handle its weight will canse the tooth, as it descends, to hold the handle against the jaw, and thus support such handle in a state of suspension. In order to relieve the handle from the tooth, We have only to take hold of the handle and force it upward against the part h of the lever, so as to press the lever upward farenough. The handle can then be easily drawn away from the tooth.`
The tool supporteror rack will be found very useful to farmers or others for supporting their tools in a barn or against a wall or fence or other object.
I claim- 1. The combination of the bent lever A., the adjustable tooth e, and the jaw g, applied to the plate B, and arranged substantially as described.
2. The combination and arrangement ofthe projection h with the bent lever A, the adjustable tooth e, and the jaw g, applied to the plate B, and arranged substantially as specilied.
ZENAS M. CRANE.
