TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I. ELIAS HOXIE, of Montezuma, inv the county of Cayuga, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in. Fastening \Vagon-Scats; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear. and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a side elevation, partly in section, of my apparatus.
Figure 2 is a detail view, to be hereinafter referred to.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
This invention relates to a new manner of securing wagomscats to the frame or box of the wagon, so that neither the sill of the seat nor that of the frame is weakened by boring holes into it for the purpose of securing the necessary bolts or screws. Moreover, the seat is very securely held down, and can he very easily removed, if desired The invention consists in the use of two or more rods or bolts, which connect the sill of the seat with the sill of the frame, one end of which bolt is screwed into a nut secured in the seat, while it other end is provided with a head and fits into a slotted clamp attached to the sill of the frame.
A represents a cross-section of a wagon-sill, upon which a frame, B, is erected. C is the sill of the seat, of which there are two under the seat, and is placed upon the frame B, as shown. A nut, D, is secured to the under side of the sillG, either by mcansof screws, or is let into it, or is otherwise attached. To the top of the sill A is secured a plate, E, with bent-up sides, a a, and elevated top piece, 5. One of the sides a and half the cover I; are slotted, so that a rod, F, can pass through the slot, and a wider slot is arranged at the lower part of the slotted side a for the head a of the bolt F to pass through, as shown in fig. 2, which is an end viewof the plate E. The bolt F extends from the sill A to the sill G. Its upper end is screwed into the put I) after its lower end has passed through the slot in the plate E, and the rod can then be screwed so that the head 0 rests against the lower surface of the plate 6, as shown in fig. 1. When the seat is to be removed, the bolt has to be screwed so that its head is lowered and can be passed out of the plate E, as is indicated in fig. 2. For easier operating the bolt F, a handle, G, has been provided on the same. It is obvious that the nut can as well be secured to the sill A,and the plate E to the -sill O, as otherwise.
It will be noticed that for securing the parts together no holes have to be made in the sillsA or C, or in otherplaees, and still the fastening is very simple, substantial, and not expensive.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and. desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1 Securing the seat to the wagon-sill by means of two or more bolts, F, extending from the sill A to the sill C, so that no holes are made into either for the said bolt to pass through, nor are they otherwise weakened, as set forth.
2. The bolt F, in combination with the nut D and slotted plate E, all made and operating substantially as herein shown and described.
