EDWARD MCGRANN, OF LOUISVILLR K'ENTUCKY.
Letters Patent No. 66,607, dated July 9, 1867 TEA-KEITTLE.
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, EDWARD MGGRANN, of Louisville, Jefferson county, Kentucky, have invented a, new and useful Tea-Kettle; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the some, referencebeing had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification.
This is an improvement on the class of tea-kettles whose lid being attached by a vertical pivot opens and closes horizontally; end'my invention consists in a form and construction of the connecting-pivot and its accessories, which combine the adveutziges of cheapness and simplicity with effectiveness.
A is the kettle body and B is the lid. C is an orifice in the rim of the body, near to but preferably to one side of the rear hail-ear. D is a boss or elevated margin to said orifice. E is a doubly countersunk orifice in f the lid, Whose lower portion, 2', fits/and is adapted to swing around the boss D. F is the pivot, provided with a conical head, f, which fits and rests upon the top of the boss 1) so as to relieve the upper countersink e from binding and to permit the unrestricted swing of the lid. The lower endf of the pivot is screw-threaded, and enters a nut, G, which, occupying a recess, a, in the body that prevents its rotation, is screwed fast against the under side of the body-rim by the application of a customary driver in the nickf.
I claim herein as new, and of my invention:-
The swinging lid B, having the doubly countersunk orifice E e e, in the described combination with the bossed orifice C D, conical-headed and screw-threaded pivot Ffff, and nut G, the whole being combined and arranged as set forth. 7
In testimony of which inventionI hereunto set my hand.
Witnesses:
GEO. H. KNIGHT, JAMEs H. LAYMAN.
EDWARD McGRANN.
