IMPROVEMENT IN. KETTLES.
TO ALL PERSONS TO WEIOM THESE PRESENTS MAY COME:
Be it known that I, HnnnoN MATTHEWs, of South Yarmouth, in the county of Barnstable, and State of Massachusetts, have invented a, new and useful Improvement in Kettles provided with covers; .and I do hereby declare the lsaine to be fully described in the following specification, and represented inthe accompanying drawings, of Which- Figure 1 is a top view, and
Figure 2 a. vertical section of a kettle provided with my invention.
The kettle A is of the kind termed a stove-boiler, it having a. cover, B, hinged to it. The hinge C I makewith two shoulders, b c, so arranged as to abut against one-another when the cover is turned liaolg into a horizontal position, and hold it in suoli position. To the cover I hinge a notched brace or supporter, D, which I arrange opposite to the hinge in manner as represented in the drawings. On raising the cover :1. short distance, the notch e of the brace will catch upon the rim of the body of the kettle, and cause the brace to support the cover in its elevated position, such being the purpose of the brace, particularly when the contents of the kettle may be in a state of ebullition.
What I claim as my invention, isp The combination and arrangement of the notched brace D with the cover B, and the'body A of the kettle.
