IMPB OVBD BEDSTEAD FASTENING.

TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: y t

Be it known that I, JAMES MAGUrRn, of Trenton, inthe county of Mercer, and State of New Jersey, have invented new and improved Bedstead Fastenings; and I lo hereby declare that the following Vis a. full, clear, and exact description thereof, which lwill enable those Yskilled in the art to make and use the saine, reference being had to the accompanying drawings for'ming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a side view of a bedstead, illustrating my invention. y

My invention consists in the combination of the plates and headed pins or bolts with the side rails yand posts of the bedstead, as hereinafter more fullydescribed.

A are the side rails, B the end rails, and C the posts of the bedstead, about the construction of which parts thereis nothing new. D are the. plates, by means of which the rails are` secured tothe posts. Upon the under side of the ends of the plates D that are attached to the rails A, are solidly formed two inwardly projecting pins, dl, which enter holes formed in the sides of` the said rails. By this construction only onets'crew will be necessary to secure the said 'plates to the seid rails. Through the ends of the platesthat project beyond the ends of the rails A, are formed inclined slots 02"', as shown in g. 1. .The bottom or lower part of the slots d2 are enlarged, as shown, so as to pass over the heads of the pins or bolts E. The inclined position of the said slots binds the bedstead more firmly together, so that the more weight there is upon the bedstead the firmer the parts will be connected together, the ends of the rails A being drawn closely against the sides of the posts C. The pins or bolts E are inserted in the outer sides of the posts C, und have heads formed.` upon them which can-pass through the enlarged lower ends of the'slots d2, but cannot pass through the other partis of said slots. By this manner of constructing and attaching the Vfastenings D E to the bedstead, the pins and screws pass into the timber across the grain, and any strain upon the bedstead draws the end of the rails A against the sides ofthe posts C, so as to relieve-the screws und pins from having to sustain allthe strain.

I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patente- The plate D, provided with the inclined slot d2, so as to-pass. over the head bf the pin E, whereby the rails A are drawn against the posts C, and the said plate and screw proportionatelyrelieved from strain, as herein set forth.
