TO ALL WHOMYII` MAY CONCERN: I
Be it known that ive, JOEL'C. JAcKscN,.of Rochester, in the county of Monroe, and State of-New York, and FREDERICK J. JACKSON, of Danbury, in the county of Fairfield, and Sta-te of Connecticut, have invented, made, and applied to use a certain new and useful Improvement in Fastenings for Bedsteads; and ive d o hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description ofthe said invention, reference being had to the annexed drawing, making part of this specification, Whereu- Figure 1 is a section of said fastening, vertically, through the post and end ofthe rail, and
Figure-2 is a view' endwise of the rail and fastenings.
Similar marks of reference denote the same parts. i
The nature of our said invention consists in a pair of inclined hooks, formed with round screw-Shanks, screwed into thc end oi' the rail, the projecting endsstanding at an acute angle to the end of the bedstead-rail, and entering similarly-inclined holes bored into the posts, so that' the side railsand posts are simply hooked together, and can be separated with facility, but at the same time the weight upon the side-rails tends to force the hooks further into the posts, and thereby bring the side-rails and' posts more closely and firmly together.
In the drawing, a represents a. portion of the post, b a portion of the'rail, of any'usnal or desired character. c c nre-the hooks, formed with the threaded Shanks, c', screwed into the end-piece ofthe rail b.
The hooks e c stand at an inclination downwards from the end of the rail, and in the-post a holes are bored at a. correspondingangle, so that the hooks c enter the posts at an acute angle, andl form a. very secureA and reliable fastening, that tightends under pressure, but by lifting or knocking up the ends of the rails, the bedstead is taken apart with great facility. I
The hooks may be round or polygonal, and, if desired, there u iay be more than two hooks employed at the ends of each rail. I
What we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The bedstead-fastening, formed of the inclined hooks c, with their threaded Shanks, c', screwed into the ends ofthe rail, as set` forth, and entering corresponding holes in theposts, as specified.
In'witness whereof, we have hereunto set our signatures, this twenty-third day of March, A. D. 1868.
