Beit known that I, SANFORD Snirn BURR, of Dedham, in the county of Norfolk', and Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented a new and improved Combination of a Table and Bedstead in one Article of `Furniture; `and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exactdescription of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making part of this specification, in whichv Figure 1 isa perspective view, showing it in the form of a tuble, one of theend pieces being removed.` Figure 2, a perspective view, showingt in the form' of a bedstead; and

Figure 3, a perspective view of one-half the lower part or frame of the article, ,the upper portion being` removed. v

To enable others, skilled in the art, to make and use my intention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation. g

A frame i's made with posts A, sides B, ends C, cleats D, grooves E, and bars Fto which is attached by hinges the pieces G. A series of slats, H, 'joined together' by pieces a,'is made movable, so as to rest at pleasure on the cleats D, forming a-portion of the bed-bottom, or onslthe bars F, Where it forms the bottom of a box for containing the mattress and bedding. The table-top I,\is connected with end pieces K, rails' and` panels L, stiles M, and leaves N. Near the ends of these stiles M are pins which move in thel grooves E,

and tothe stiles are aihxed slats which serve to complete the bed-bottom above mentioned. `To change the bedstead to n table, the slats H are placed' in the position shown in iig. 3; theipieces `Gr are raised to the position shown` in figure 1, and at X in iig. 2; the top I, with its connections, is lifted, turning on the pin in the groove E, until it arrives ina perpendicular position, when it is lowered until the end* pieces K rest upon the posts A, in which position the lips of the strips or rabbet O close over the'edges of the pieces4 G, retaining them in position, and forming a box capable of containing all the requisite bedding. The i end pieces K can be fastened by hooks or other device. Leaves P, fastened to barsR, which bars slide in holes cut in end pieces K, and are supported by the table-top I, are'provided to enlarge the table when desired.

To change the table to a bedstead, the leaves P are removed, the leaves N raised and fastened by some` suitable ccntrivance. The table-top I, with its connections, is raised. until the pin sliding inthe grooveli` reaches the top of said groove, when it is turned down to the` position shown in iig. 2, and the slatsHare raised to rest on the .cleats D, the end pieces'G being turned down, as shown at Z.;

The above-described piece .of furniture can be turned and adjusted with the greatest ease, and by lmeans of i the movable bottom the box in the centre of the table is made quite large enough to contain the mattress and all the bedding. h

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is t The combination oi'A the table-top'I and its connections with the slet-frame H, and box AB C D E F` and G, for the purpose, and operating substantially `as above described.

I also claim a combination of the sides of the table L M and withthe tops I and the leaf N, s'o constructed' and arranged by means of the pin sliding in the groove E, that the same can at will be transformed into the bottom, end, and support of the bed, in the manner und for the purposes substantially as herein described." p
