SANFORD S. BUR-R, OF DEDHAM, MASSACHUSETTS.
Letters Patent No. 60,684, dated January 1, 1867. i
IMPROVED CRIB AND WALKING-STUDI..
alge tlptule match tu in tlgcst tttert ttntt mit mating gmt ai tige sami.
Be it known that I, SANFORD SMITH Bunn, of Dedham,in the county of yNorfolk, and Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Crib and Walking-Stool combined in one article of furniture; and that the following is a clear, full, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making part of this specication, in Which- Figure 1 is a drawing'of the article in the form of a crib, with the movable bottom removed.
Figure 2 represents it in the form of a walking-stool.
Figure 3 is a section of the walking-stool arrangement with the rockers turned up inside; and
Figure 4, a section of the crib with the rockers resting on the iioor and one of the tops turned up, the other being turned-down.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use myiinvention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation. l
A frame is made, consisting of the posts A, sides B, and rails O. To this frame is attached the bar D for the purpose of supporting the movable bottom E and the rocker F, which latter is hinged to it at a. The top H is connected with sides J and ends K, and is pivoted to the posts A at o. When in the form of a crib, the top H with its connections is turned down, as shown in figs. 1 and 4, and supported by a quadrant or.other suitable fastening, the rockers are turned down, resting upon the loor, and raising the posts as shown in iig. 4, and the rockers are made stationary by hooks, bars, or other suitable fastening. The movable bottom is then placed on the bar D. If desirable, the rockers can be dispensed with, and the crib rest entirely on the casters. In the form of a Walking-stool, the movable bottom istaken out, the rockers folded up as shown in iig. 3, and the casters b on the posts are vallowed to rest on the ioor. The tops H' are then raised, and the edges of the hole M, being placed beneath the arms of a child within the Walking-stool, the tops are lowered to their places, and form a support for the child, with its feet on the door, and the casters enable it to be' moved easily by a child who would be otherwise unable to Walk. The tops H H, when shut together, may be fastened together, if necessary,
by hooks or other suitable fastening.
The above-described article of furniture is easily adjustable, so that it may serve either as a Walking-stool or crib, as desired: and, by means of my invention, a crib, cradle, and walking-stool are all combined in one article of furniture, requiring but little space in an apartment.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- I The combination of a crib or cradle with a walking-stool, in one piece of furniture, constructed and operated substantially as above described and for the purposes above set forth.
I also claim the frame A B and O, resting upon casters I, and connected by pivot at o with the top H and its connections, and by the bar D with the rocker F, substantially as herein shown and described'.
I also claim the rocker F attached to a walking-stool, constructed and operating substantially as herein shown and for the purposes above set forth.
I also claim the top H with its connections (J and K) pivoted at o, constructed and operating substantially as herein shown and for the purposes .above set forth.
