Be it known that I, MARY ANN BOWLING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Scan dia, in the county of Republic, State of KanL sas, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Clothes-Driers; andl do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others. skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

The invention relates to combined stove pipe shelf and clothes drier.

The object of the invention is to provide a simple device for attaching drying bars to the stove pipe and at the same time form a support for a shelf or warming oven.

The improvement consists of the novel features and the peculiar construction and combination of the parts which will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed and which are shown in the annexed drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the application of the invention, part of the shelf being broken away. Fig. 2 is a top plan and Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view of the support. Fig. 4 is a detail section on a larger scale showing the manner of attaching the drying bars to the support.

The support A is preferably constructed of two halves which are adapted to be fitted around the stove pipe C, and which are secured together by suitable fastening means, being hinged together at one end and fasteded at the other end by any well known appliance as the draw bolt B and the thumb nut b. A series of vertical openings D are formed in the support and grooves d and d extend,

radially from the opposite ends of the said openings in opposite directions. The grooves d are formed in the top side of the support and extend outwardly and the grooves d in the bottom side and extend inwardly. These grooves hold the drying rods E in afixed relative position and are sufliciently deep to permit the portions of the rods lying therein to come flush with the top and the bottom side of the said support.

The drying rods E are formed of metal and have their inner ends bent to form the den ected portions e and e', the portion c being at right angles to the main portion of the rod and the portions projected in an f opposite direction from the portion e at an obtuse angle. These rods E may be of any required length. For drying purposes they will be quite long, but when used solely to support a shelf F or an oven, not shown, they will be comparativelyshort. The support A being narrow will not of itself form a shelf, hence the necessity of providing a shelf F and supporting the same on the support A and.V the rods E. The shelf will be of sheet metal and may be composed of two parts which are adapted to be connected at their meeting edges in any manner that will permit them to be readily separated for purposes of removing it from or applying it to the stove pipe. When'in position the rods E will have the bent portions e thrust through openings D and the outwardly deflected portions e resting in the grooves CZ and the main portions resting in the grooves cl, as most clearly shown in Fig. 4. To remove the rods from the support elevate their outer ends to disengage the outwardly defiected portions e from the lower side of the said support andlift them from the said openings D.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isma 1. The combination with a support A having vertical opening D, and having groove d in the top side thereof extending outward from the upper end of the opening D, and having groove d in its lower side extending inward from the lower end of the said opening D, of rod E adapted to rest in the groove d, and having the bent portion e to extend through the. vertical opening D, and having the deflected portion e to enter the said groove el', vsubstantially as set forth.

The combination with the support A of uniform thickness having aseries of vertical openings D formed therethrough, and having groove d in its top side extending outward from the upper ends of said opening D, and having groove d in its lower side extending inward from the lower end of said opening D, of rods E adapted to enter said groove d and come Hush with the top side of said support, and having the bent portions e to pass through the vertical opening D and having IOO the deected portion e to enter said groove clf and come flush with the lower side of the said support, substantially as set forth.

3. The combination with the support A adapted to be secured on a stove pipe, and having a series of vertical openings formed therethrough and having grooves in its top side extending outward from the upper end of said openings of the rods E resting in said groove so as to come iiush with the top side of said support and having bent portions e to pass through` said vertical openings, and.

having the deflected portion ef t-o engagewith the under side of said support, and a shelf adapted to be supported on said support A 15 and the said rods, made in halves which are hinged together, substantially as described and for the purpose set forth.
