COMBINED FOOT-REST AND SHELF FOR RADIATORS- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 26, 1905.
Application filed May 18,1905. Serial No. 260,979.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANKLIN H. MAxAM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Princeton, in the county of Gibson and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in aOombined Foot-Rest and Shelf for Radiators; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to combined footrests and shelves for radiators; and one of the principal objects of the same is to-provide a device of this character which shall be of simple construction, which shall be inexpensive to manufacture, and which shall be capable of adjustment to radiators of difierent types.
Another object is to provide a foot-rest for radiators with means for readily converting the foot-rest into a shelf or rack for clothes or other articles to be dried or warmed.
Still another object is to provide means for readily adjusting the foot-rest laterally outward from the radiator to suit difierent conditions in use.
These and other objects are attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective View of a radiator of ordinary construction and showing my combined foot-rest and shelf suspended therefrom and adjusted relatively thereto by means of a chain. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the same with the shelf in position to serve as a footrest, and Fig. 3 is a similar View of the invention when used without the shelf.
Referring to the drawings for a more particular description of my invention, the numeral 1 in Figs. 1 and 2 designates a radiator, and 2 designates the loops or coils of the I same, said loops or coils being connected by a may be adjusted laterally in the tubular por-. tion 10 in order that the foot-rest may be adapted for radiators of different structures.
The shelf 11 is pivotally connected to the ends of the foot-rest frame or members in order that it may be swung to the position shown in Fig. 1 to serve as a suitable shelf or support for clothes or other articles to be dried or warmed near the radiator. hen it is desired to use the shelf as a foot-rest, it may be swung into the position shown in Fig. 2.
A chain 12, provided with rings 13, one at each end, is connected to the members 4 and 5, the hooks at the upper ends thereof being passed through therings and said chain being adapted to bear against the loops or coils of the radiator to hold the foot-rest at any required distance from the radiator by moving the chain up or down upon the members 4 5, as will be understood.
From the foregoing it will be understood that my combined foot-rest and shelf may be extended to accommodate itself to radiators of different patterns, that the same may be adjusted relatively to the radiator, and that j the swinging shelf may be thrownv upward to form a convenient clothes-rack or support for drying clothes or other articles and may be swung downward readilyin position to serve as a foot-rest. It will be understood that the two members 4 and 5 may be adjusted laterally within the tubular portion 10.
WVhen it is desired, the shelf portion may be omitted and the members 4 5 may then be connected by a plain metal tube, as shown in Fig. 3.
Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A foot-rest and hanger for radiators comprising two members adapted to be supported from a radiator, a tubular portion connecting the two members and a shelf connected to said tubular portion and adapted to be adjusted to serve as a shelf or hanger and as a foot-rest, substantially as described.
2. A foot-rest and shelf for radiators, comprising two members suspended from the radiator and provided with a foot-rest and a chain connecting the two members and ad justable vertically on said members to move the foot-rest relatively to the radiator, substantially as described.
. 3. A combined foot-rest and hanger for ra- In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of tWo subscribing Wit- IO nesses.
FRANKLIN H. MAXAM.
