H. V. HOLMES. DEVI-GE FOR STRETGHING AND DRYING CURTAINS.
Patented May 5, 1891.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HELEN V. HOLMES, OE CI-IIGAGQILLINOIS.
DEVICE FOR STRETCHING AND DRYING CURTAINS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 451,607, dated May 5. 189].
Application filed June 25, 1890. Renewed April '7, 1891. Serial No. 387,913. No model.)
To LLZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, HELEN V. HOLMES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ohicago, in the county of Cool: and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Stretching and Drying Curtains, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, that will enable others to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.
This invention relates to an improved arrangement for holding and drying curtains, more especially lace curtains, as will be hereinafter set forth.
The object is to provide a simple and convenient device of this character which may be easily folded up and stowed away when not required for use, and to dispense with the cumbersome wooden frame ordinarily used for this purpose.
Figure 1 is a plan of a device embodying my improved features, and Fig. 2 an enlarged perspective of a broken-away part.
The device consists of the two long vertical side stripsA and the two shorter top and bottom strips B, arranged at right angles with reference to the sides, forming a rectangular frame. These separate strips will ordinarily consist of leather or other suitable flexible material, so as to permit of the same being folded or rolled when not in the outstretched position shown for use. The supporting-strips are provided their entire length at intervals with the holding-pins O, the respective ends a a of which are inserted the same in place.
through from the back side near their edges, as shown in the drawings. The ends a pro ject at an angle with reference to the face of the strips, (see Fig. 2,) so as to hold and at the same time prevent the curtains from becoming disengaged when attached. The ends a. are bent down flatly and clinched in the material for the purpose of securely fastening The ends of the strips are covered and protected by the metal clips I). The outer edges and respective ends of the strips are provided with perforations D, through which suitable fastening devices, such as nails or screws, may be inserted when arranging the strips to hold curtains.
hen the device is required for use, the different strips will be fastened to the wall or window-frame or other suitable place, either inside or on the outside of the house, in the relative position shown, and the curtains stretched on the same by being made to engage with the different holding-pins.
Having thus described my inven tion, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a device for holding curtains, the combination, with the respective flexible side and end strips,of theholding-pins inserted through said strips, one end of said pins projecting at an angle with reference to the face of said strips i and the opposite ends clinched in the material, substantially as described.
