J. A. HOFF.
GARMENT POLE SUPPORT; APPLICATION FILED FEB. 8.1916.
Patented July 31, 1917.

GARMENT-POLE snrron'r.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented July 31, 1917.
Application filed February 8,1916 seri inamoza To all whom itmay concem Be it known that I, JnNs A. Horn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Eugene, in the county of Lane and State of Oregon, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Pole Supports; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to a garment pole support.
The object of the present invention is to provide a simple, practical and comparatively inexpensive garment pole support adapted to be readily applied to a cleat for supporting one end of a garment pole in a clothes closet or other place and adapted to permit a garment pole to be readily placed in and removed from it without detaching it from a supporting cleat.
lVith these and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claim hereto appended, it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the drawing- Figure 1 is a side elevation of a garment pole support constructed in accordance with this invention and shown in position, the supporting cleat and wall being in section,
Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the garment pole support.
Fig. 3 is a rear elevation of the same.
Like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several figures of the drawing.
In the accompanying drawing in which is illustrated the preferred embodiment of the invention, the garment, pole support comprises in its construction, a vertical back plate 1 and a socket 2 mounted on the back plate and extending outwardly therefrom and adapted to receive a garment pole 3. The back plate which is constructed of metal or other suitable material is substantially oblong and its upper portion is bent rearwardly at right angles to provide a supporting flange 4 which is adapted to be arof a closet or other place.
ranged upon a cleat 5 secured to the wall 6 In practice a pair of the cleats 5 are secured to the opposite walls of a closet in horizontal alinement and a pair of the garment pole supports are mounted on the cleats to receive the ends of the pole 3. The back plate is fitted against the front edge of the cleat 5 and the supporting flange 4: has its rear edge bent downwardly notched or serrated to provide a series of teeth 7 which are adapted to be partially embedded in the upper face of the cleat 5 whereby the garment pole support is maintained in position without liability of accidentally slipping on the cleat when garment hangers are placed on and removed from the pole 3.
The socket 2 consists of an approximately U-shaped piece of sheet metal composed of spaced sides and a connecting bottom portion 8 which is curved to conform to the configuration of the pole 3 but instead of employing a round pole as shown any other form of pole may of course be provided. The Ushaped socket or socket member is provided at its rear edge with a plurality of integral tongues 9 which are passed through slots 10 in the back plate 1 and.
clenched against the rear face thereof whereby the socket piece or member is securely fastened to the back plate but any other suitable means may of course be provided for this purpose. The back plate is also provided above the socket piece with a centrally arranged perforation 11 which is adapted to receive a suitable fastening device for assisting and retaining the garment support on the cleat 5. Such a fastening device may or may not be employed as desired. The socket piece or member is provided with vertical rear edges which are fitted against the front or outer face of the back plate preferably in parallelism with the side and bottom edges of the back plate.
What is claimed is 1-- A garment pole support including a vertical back plate having its upper portion bent rearwardly at right angles to provide a supporting flange, the rear edge of the supporting flange being bent downwardly and serrated to engage the upper face of a cleat, and a substantially U-shaped socket member composed of spaced sides and a connecting bottom portion and fitted at its rear edges against the front face of the back plate in spaced relation with the marginal edges of the back plate to form a marat the front and top to receive and support ginal flange, said back plate being provided one end of a garment pole. 10 at its opposite sides with Vertically alined In testimony whereof I afiiX my signature spaced slots and the said socket piece being in presence of two Witnesses.
provided at its rear edges with projecting JENS A. HOFF.
lugs extending through the said slots and Witnesses:
engaging the rear face of the back plate, O. H. FOSTER,
said socket piece or member being also open RUTH KnLLoee.
