To aZZ whom it may concern.-

Be it known that we, SILAs N. GREENLEAF, of Seattle, in the county of King, and HENRY BARKER, of Hoquiam, in the county of Chehalis, State of Washington, have invented a new and Improved Chart-Table, of which the following is a full, c1ear,.and exact description.

The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved table for theuse 0f mariners, surveyors, architects, and other persons and arranged for securely holding charts or maps in place for convenient inspection on board a vessel or other place, the table and map being constructed for convenient folding and storing when not in use.

The invention consists of certain parts and details and combinations of the same, as will be fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claim.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improvement as extended. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the same when folded up, and Fig. 3 is a like view of the under side of the improvement and with the legs folded.

The improved device is provided with a support A, fastened to a wall or other place, and on the said support A are held hinges B, connected with the lowermost slat C of a slat table 0, having its individual slats connected with each other. by a canvas, cloth, or like fabric C 011 the top of the table, which makes a smooth unbroken surface when the table is in use. The map or chart D is placed on this fabric 0 and is held in place thereon by rubber bands E, secured to the ends of the slats and extending over the table in a longitudinal direction, as plainly indicated in Fig. 1.

In order to hold the slat table 0 in an extended horizontal position, arms F are provided, hinged to the support A underneath the slat table, so that the said arms can be folded upon the support A or extended at right angles therefrom to support the sides of the slat table, as is plainly indicated in Figs. 1 and 3.

On the outer ends of the arms F are legs G, adapted to swing downward and rest on the floor, so as to support the outer or free ends of the arms F and firmly hold the table 0 in place when extended, as indicated in Fig. 1.

The legsG when not in use are locked to the arms F by straps H and pins H or other suitable means, such as hooks and eyes.

When the device is used in the captains bunk on board a vessel, then the said legs G are not necessary, as the front end of the arms F may rest on the bunk, and hence a further support, such as the legs G, is not required.

If the device is not used when examining maps, charts, and the like, then the table C is rolled up and the arms F are swung inwardly and folded upon one another and the innermost arm on the support A, and then the rolled-up table, with the arms and legs, is locked in place by a strap I, attached to the under side of the support A and adapted to engage a button or hook I, driven in the wall. (See Fig. 2.)

The map or chart D is loosely held on the table 0 and can be removed from the same and replaced by another whenever desired.

It is understood that by the arrangement described the map or chart D readily rolls up with the table and on the inside thereof, so that it is not liable to become soiled when not in use.

Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A chart-table, comprising a top consisting of slats arranged close together, a flexible material holding the slats together, the said flexible material being secured to the upper surface of the slats so that a' smooth unbroken top surface is provided when the table is in use, a support to which one edge of the top is hinged, supporting-arms hinged to the support, flexible straps for holding a chart on the table-top, and a strap for holding the top in its rolled position, substantially as specified.
