. GUSTAVUS HOFFMANN, -oF LEBANON, ILLINOIS.
MATERIAL-CASE FOR WATCH-MAKERS AND OTHERS.
' SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 357.006, dated February 1, 1887.
Application filed October 12, 1885. Serial No. 179,096. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUSTAVUS HOFFMANN, of Lebanon, in the county of St. Clair and the State of Illinois, have invented a; certain new and useful Improvement in Combination Material-Gases, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, and in which- Figure l is a perspective view of. my improved case; and Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail horizontal section of part of one of the drawers with portions of the adjacent frame, showing the spring and catch that form the drawer- J lock.
My invention relates to an improved material-case for watch-makers, jewelers, andothers; and my invention consists in features of novelty hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claim.
Referring to the drawings, similar letters of reference represent like parts in both figures.
A represents one of my combination material-cases, adapted alike to the use of watchmakers, jewelers, Opticians, and others, in
connection with their work-benches, for the deposit of the great variety of material that the workman requires to lay his hand on without delay of a search. By the use of this case he can lay his hand instantly on the material he needs, and also the material itself is well protected from injury, so that even the most delicate articles are perfectly safe from wear and tear by abrasion with heavy and angular articles, and the material is also protected from dust.
B is the glass cover, which enables the artisan to see the compartment and drawer in which the article he requires is located.
0 are the drawers, and O the partitions that 40 divide the compartments 0.
D D are springs that work in recesses in the frame adjacent to the edges of the drawers. These springs project the drawers laterally, so that the catch E engages in the notch E, 5 the whole forming a spring-catch that is very readily sprung and the drawer opened by the workman who is acquainted with the design, but looks the drawers (which contain valuable material) from unauthorized parties who are unacquainted with the device.
I have shown a case nearly square, with six drawers divided into forty-three compartments of various forms and sizes; but I do not confine myself to those forms in either the 5 case or drawers and their compartments, or in the number of drawers and their divisions, for it is evident that both the number and form may be varied without departing from the essential features of my invention.
I prefer to make the frame and drawers of my case of wood with a glass top, (the latter so that a work man may see which drawer he requires to open but I do not confine myself to those materials, for sheet metal, papier-mach, or any other suitable substance may be used.
I claim as my invention- In a material-case for watch-makers and oth ers, the combination of the case, glass top, drawers divided into compartments, with the 7c spring D in recess of frame D, catch E, and notch E, all substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
GUSTAVUS HOFFMANN.
In presence of- O. WILLI, FRANK Russ.
