Description

T. H. B, PARKS. REMOVABLE TOPS FOR SHOW-CASES.
No. 195,529, Patented Sept.25.1877.
ATTORNEYS.
N PETERS. PHJTO-UTHOGRAPNER, WASHINGTON a E PATENT OFFICE.
UNITED STATES THOMAS H. B. PARKS, OF ARKADELPHIA, ARKANSAS.
IMPROVEMENT IN REMOVABLE TOPS FOR SHOW-CASES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 195,529, dated September 25, 1877; application filed June 11, 1877.
To all whom may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS H. B. PARKS, of Arkadelphia, in the county of Clark and State of Arkansas, have invented a new and Improved Show-Case Sash, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a sectional front view of my improved show-case sash; and Fig. 2, a vertical transverse section of the same on line a: at, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention is a detachable front or cover designed for application to boxes containing goods. For example, when a grocer receives a box of crackers, raisins, or other articles whose contents he wishes to display, and at the same time to protect from dust, also from thieves, and yet render them accessible for the purpose of removal of a portion to supply customers, the top of the box may be removed and my detachable front or cover applied to the same. In such case the box may be turned on its side, so as to better display the goods.
By use of myimprovement the dealer avoids the necessity of placing the goods in separate boxes for the purpose of exposing and yet protecting the goods.
In practice the dealer will keep on hand a number of the detachable box fronts or cov' ers, and will transfer them from one set of boxes to another as occasion requires.
The invention consists in the specific construction of the device, as hereinafter described and claimed.
By referring to the drawing, A represents a sash of any suitable size, which slides vertically in a grooved guide-frame, B, that is attached by screws, hooks and eyes, or otherwise, to the show-case, shelf, or box in which the goods are stored.
The guide-frame B rests, by a projecting top piece, a, on the box or other article, which top piece, however, is not necessarily required for all purposes.
The sash A is retained at any suitable position by suitable friction-springs b applied to the guide-tongues,which friction-sprin gs serve, also, for locking the sash in closed position by throwing a lip or shoulder at the upper part of the sash-frame over the top part of the guide-frame B.
The sash A is prevented from dropping out of the guide-frame by spring-bolts 0, that pass through the sides of the guide-frame into recesses or notches of the sashl'rame.
By withdrawing the spring-bolts the sash may be readily removed from the guide-frame. By unscrewing the fastening-screws or detaching the books the guide-frame may be readily removed and attached to any other case or box until the same is empty, and so on, the sash forming a protection for the contents of the show-case, box, or other object to which it is applied.
.5, For opening the sash, the hands are placed on the top of the box or case, and the forefingers pressed on the sashuntil the lip of the same clears the guide-frame and admits the sliding down of the sash, the lip and frictionsprings holding the sash at any suitable position.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The frame B, provided with side grooves and the top piece or lip on, the spring-stops 0, and the adjustable or sliding sash A, having side notches, as shown and described, the whole forming a device applicable as a detachable protector and transparent front or cover for boxes containing goods to be exhibited and sold, as specified.
THOMAS H. B. PARKS.
