HEINRICH DEOHENT, OF NEV YORK, N. Y.
SHOW-CASE FOR CUTLERY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N o. :562,207I dated May 3, 1887.
` Application filed August 14, 1886. Serial No. 210,879. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HEINRICH DECHENT, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Show-Cases for Cutlery, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved showcase for cutlery, and more especially as a showcase for pocket knives, whereby large numbers of the same can be conveniently exposed to View either in the show window or case, and readily sold at less'loss of time and inconvenience than in the present mode of exhibiting and selling pocket-cutlery.
The invention consists of a showcase for pocket-cutlery, which is provided with asample-board, on which are supported by suitable fastening devices a large number of. different styles of pocket-knives or other cutlery, said sample-board being supported by upright side standards, which, together with the sampleboard, support horizontal detachable guiderods, that serve to support by means of rollers movableA boxes having hinged front and top lids, and as many partitions as there are numbers on the corresponding tier or row of pocketknives on the sample-board.v The guide-rods, also the cutlery-boxes, are detachable from the supporting-standards, and the latter capable of being folded on the bottom of the case, so as to take upless space for shipment.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l represents a plan view of my improved show-case for pocket-cutlery. Fig. 2 isa side elevation; Fig. 3, vertical transverse section on line x x, Fig. l; Fig. 4, a rear elevation of the same; Fig. 5, a top view of one of the movable cutlery storage-boxes; and Fig. 6 is an enlarged cross -sectional View of my improved showcase for cutlery, the boxes being removed. Fig. 7 is a front view of the frame, the side pieces being folded. Fig. 8 is a plan view of the under side of the top plate. Fig. 9 is an end view of the case folded.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A in the drawings represents the snpporting-frame of my improved show-case for pocket-cutlery, which frame is made of a bottom or base, a, and upright side frames, b b, and a detachable top plate, d,which serves as asample-board for a large number of knives or other cutlery. The top plate or sample-board. d, is provided at the top with a horizontal shelf, d', that is also provided with a number of rows, preferably four, for receiving samples of knives or other cutlery, each row being preferably adapted to hold about twelve knives. Between the rows fastening devices di are provided for holding the samples of pocket-cutlery on the plate d. Each sample is numbered correspondingly to the corresponding compartment in the cutlery storageboxes B, of which there are arranged as many as there are rows of tiers of sample cutlery on the sample-plate d.
The storageboxes B are divided by partitions into compartments, of which there are preferably twelve, and each compartment is of a sufficient size to contain about a dozen or more pocket knives. Each storage box is provided with hinged front and top lids, which lids are closed by a hook and eye or other suitable fasteniugdevioes, and said boxes are provided at the ends with rollers, bywhich they are supportted on the horizontal rods C, which are suitably supported in upright side frames, b b. By means of thefrollers the storage-boxes can be moved readily on the guide-rods O or pushed back thereon, according as one or the other box is to be opened, in which cases the boxes above the one intended to be opened are preferably pushed out of the way, so as to fa- -cilitate the opening of the top lid.
W'hen the rods C are detached the boxes B can also be detached and placed sidewise on the bottom frame, a, and then the side frames, 11, which are provided with the hinges e and locking devices e', can be folded down upon the boxe-s B, as shown in Figs. 7 and 9, and then the sample-board d, which is pref` erably hinged to the top of the front piece of the base by eyes and hinge-rod, can be detached and placed on the top of the boxes B and folded sides b, as shown in Fig. 9.
If desired, the casing, instead of resting on the base, can be so placed as to rest oirits back when the shield disat the bottom of the front. The rodsC must then be arranged at rightangles to the position they have in the drawings.
ICO
'Ihe cutlery show-case can eitherbe placed into a glass-covered show-case o f the ordinary construction or placed simply on the counter in the store. It can also be used asa pocketknife exhibitor in show-windows, in which case the storageboxes are preferably detached and kept at a suitable place in the store. In either case the sale of the pocket-cutlery to the public as well as to the storekeeper is greatly facilitated, as the selection can be easily made and a corresponding pocket-knife be readily taken out of the corresponding numbered compartments of the storage-boxes. The show-case may also be adapted for other eutlery, such as shears, table-cutlery, &c.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desi re to secure by Letters Patent 1. A show-case for cutlery, consisting of a supporting-frame, a sample-board at the front or top of said frame, said sample-board being provided with fastening devices for the cutlery, and numbers, and storage boxes supportedinways of the frame and provided with correspondingly numbered compartments, substantially as set forth.
2. A show-case for cutlery, consisting of a. supporting-frame having hinged side standards, and a detachable front sample-board,'d`e tachable guide-rods supported by said guidefralnes, and partitioned storage-boxes for the cutlery, provided With rollers for being guided on said rods, substantially asset forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my naine in presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
Y ViHEINRICH DEGHENT.
