0. T. JENSEN.
HAME FASTENER.
No. 313,336., I Patented Mar. 3, 188,5.
WITNESSES a. PETERS, Pholo-Llllwgmphur. Washiuglnn. 11C.
UNTTED STATES PATENT @rrrcn.
OLE T. JENSEN, OF ORESCO, TEXAS.
HAM E-FASTEN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 313,336, dated March 3, 1885.
Application filed December 31, 1884. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OLE T. J ENSEN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Oresco, in the county of Balo Pinto and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Harrie-Fasteners, and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in hame-fasteners, the object of my invention being to provide a clasp or holder the parts of which are simple in construction; and my invention consists in the construction and combination of the parts, as will be hereinafter fully set forth, and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate my invention, Figure 1 is a side view showing my invention applied to a pair of hames. Fig. 2 is a sectional view.
A A represent the hames, which are provided at their ends with loops a, which are ordinarily intended for the reception of straps.
B represents a sliding section from the upper portion, b, of which depend side pieces, I). From the upper portion, 1), of the section B projects a hook, B, which is adapted to be secured in the loop a of one of the hames. The hook B is partially open, so that it can be readily detached and attached from the hame.
Through the sliding section 13 passes a bar or another sliding section, 0, which portion is of less width than the space between the side pieces, I), and the lower edge of the section 0 is provided with serrations c, which engage with a transverse catch-bar, d, which is rigidly secured to the depending side pieces, I). The guideplate eis also rigidlysecured between the side pieces, b, the end of which is turned outwardly, so as not to engage with the serrations on the lower side of the bar Owhen the said bar is drawn through the sliding section in the direction indicated by the arrow. The bar 0 is provided on its upper side with a spring, D, the main portion of which is straight and bears upon the under surface of the top piece, b.
The tendency of this spring is to throw the bar 0 downward, so as to engage with the cross-bar d. The end E of the bar 0 is bent upon itself, as shown, and provided with a spring,f, thus forming the end of said bar into a snap-hook for engagement with the lower end of the hame-section. The opposite end of the bar 0 is bent so as to form a finger-ring, E, and the bent portions at the ends of this bar will prevent the aforesaid bar from slipping off from the sectionB. The section B is provided with a ring,F, which is secured thereto near one end of said section and below the plane of the cross-bar d, said ring passing through perforations d in the side pieces.
The hame-fastener hereinbefore described is secured to one end of the hame by the snaphook E upon the sliding section or bar 0, and when it is desired to secure the lower parts of the hame to each other the hook B is attached to the adjacent loop of the opposite hame.
To tighten the hames upon the collar, the ring F/ and the ring F are grasped and the sections slid upon each other, and when the hames are tightened sufficiently the cross-bar (1 will engage with the serrations and hold the ends of the hames securely together.
The parts can be readily separated from each other by simply raising the end of the bar 0, so as to bring the serrations out of engagement with the cross-bar d, when the hook B may be released from the loop a.
The ring F, hereinbefore described, may also be employed asa means for attaching a breast chain or strap thereto when the fastener is used upon double harness.
I claim 1. In a hame-fastener, a section, B, provided at one end with a hook, and below the plane of said hook with a cross-bar, which is attached to the depending side pieces, in combination with theserrated sliding bar O,having ahooked end, and a' spring adapted to bear against the under side of the section B so as to throw said serrated bar in engagement with the cross-bar attached thereto, substantially as shown, and for the purpose set forth.
2. In a hame-fastener, a sliding section, B, having a hook formed integral therewith and provided with depending side pieces, between- D, attached thereto, the ends of said bar being bent upon themselves, substantially as shown, and for the purpose set forth.
3. In a hamefastener, a section, B, provided at one end with a hook, B. and side pieces, Z1, said side pieces being provided with rigid crossbars cl 6, as shown, in combination with the sliding bar 0, having on its under side serrations 0, and on the opposite side therefrom a spring, D, one end of said sliding bar being bent upon itself so as to form a hook, the opposite end being bent so as to form a ring, E, for the purpose set forth.,
4. The combination, in a hanie-fastener, of a section, B, having the hook B and depending side pieces formed integral therewith, a-
seetion, 0, adapted to play through the section B between the said side pieces, hooks formed on each end of said section 0 as described, a series of teeth formed on the under face of said section 0, a cross-bar projecting upward from between the side pieces so as to engage with the said teeth, and a spring, 1), interposed between the sections B O, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses;
OLE T. JENSEN.
