Y W. F, RICE. lDOUBLE Loop-AND BUCKLE F03, HARNESS SADDLES.
No. 372,331. Patented Nov. 1, 1337-.
o UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM F. RICE, OF PLUM CREEK, NEBRASKA.
DOUBLE LOOP AND BUCKLE FOR HARNESS-SADDLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part et' Letters Patent No. 372,331, dated November 1, 1887.
Application mea March 14, 1887. serial No. 230,858. (No modem v.To all whom 15 may concern:
nation of a double metal loop and buckle, sini gle metal loops having dat and perforated bases, and leather straps, as hereinafter set forth, pointed out in my claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figurel is a top view of my double loop and buckle. Fig. 2 is a top view of my single loop; Fig. 3, a top View of a section of-a har-` ness-saddle having. a girth detachably connected therewith by means of my invention, and Fig. 4 a longitudinal section of Fig. 3, Fig. 5 is a top view of a metal hook and loops combined. Fig. 6 shows the same applied.
a is the dat base of my doublev loop.
` and a cross-bar, b, in said opening.
c is a tongue hinged to the cross-bar.
dd are perforations through which rivets are passed to secure the complete device to the leather skirt-piece of a harness-saddle, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4.
^ g g are loops formed integral with the base a to project upward and in opposite directions.
h is a single loop having an integral and perforated flat base, m, adapting it to be riveted to astrap, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4.
h is a modiied-form of single loop in which the top portion of the loop is in two parts, as required, to widen the top of the loop without increasing its weight. v
fis the skirt-piece of a harnesssaddle, to which the double loop and buckle and aleather strap, 1^', are jointly riveted. A
It has -an elongated opening in the center ofthe base r is asecond leather strap placed under the strap r', and the two straps and the single loop h then jointly riveted to the lower end of the skirt-piecef in such a manner that the two straps r and r can be jointly passed through a ring on the end of a girth and then doubled and passed under the loop r and buckled fast in the double loop and buckle, as clearly shown in Figs. 3 and 4. The single loop 7L is riveted to the skirt-piece above the buckle in such a manner that the ends of the straps r and r can be tucked under it and retained lat under the skirt-piece.
s is the flat and perforated end of a hook that has integral loops s', on its opposite sides. It is adapted to be applied in place of the strap r and loop h, as shown in Fig, 6. The Inet-al hook thus attached will admit the ring on the end ofa girth and prevent t-he Wear of the leather strap r.
I am aware that a double loop and buckle has been made by attaching a tongue to a plate and then combining the plate and tongue with a base-plate having loops at its ends; but my manner of forming an integral bar in the center of a base having loops at its ends and hinging a tongue direct to said bar and plate is novel and advantageous.
I claim as my inventionl. A double metal loop and buckle coniprising a fiat and perforated base, a, having a cross-bar, b, a tongue, c, and loops g g, substantially as shown and described, for the purposes stattd.
2. The combination of the metal Vdouble loops and buckle a b c d herein described, the Single loops hand h', and the leather straps r' and r, with the leather skirt-pieee r, of a harness-saddle, substantially as shown'and described, for the purposes stated.
WILLIAM F. RICE.
