UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
VROBERT D. TUCKER, OF BOONEVILLE, MISSISSIPPI, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO PINK WASHINGTON MCOARLEY, OF SAME PLACE.
BACK-BAND BUCKLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 299,941, dated June 3, 1884.
Application filed December 21, 1883. (No model.)
2o. al?, when@ it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT DAVID TUCKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Booneville, in the county of Prentiss and State 5 of Mississippi, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Back-Band Buckles,`of which the following is a specication, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to improvements in buckles, and has for its objects to prevent rubhing or chang the horse, to produce a buckle at once strong and simple, and causing the back-band to keep buckled. 'I he objects are attained by the devices illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this speciiication, in which- Figure lis a plan. Fig. 2 is a side elevation. Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on the line .r m of Fig. 1.
. The letter A indicates the frame of the buckle.
A' is a lug curved inwardly, and is recessed on the bottom and inside to fit a hook, D, which is pivoted thereto by the pivot d.
B is the middle bar, and is provided with spaced teeth C, which project inwardly about three-eighths of an inch. These teeth are long i and sharp, and are intended to reach through 3o the band.
D is a hook, which fits into the recess in the lug A', as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2, and
is flattened at thebottom, and extends slightly in the rear of the body of the buckle, and a little below its lower surface.
The bottom of the frame A is hollowed or.-
curved, in order to prevent its rubbing the horse'.- The back-band H (shown in dotted lilies in Fig. 2) is passed through the slot B', then over the middle bar, B, and the teeth C, then under the bottom D' of the hook D. The chain K, (shown in dottedlines, Fig. 2,) when on the hook, has its weight or pressure below the rivet d, which causes it to always remain closed and its point to bear against the band, and thus prevents its becoming unbuckled. By throwing the end of the band H back and raising the lower end of the hook, the chain is thrown olf or on much easier than on hooks of different construction.
Having described my invention, what I desire to secure by Letters Patent, and claim, is-
In aback-bandbuckle, the frame A, having recessed lug A', middle bar, B, and teeth C, in combination with hook D,'pivoted thereto, substantially as described, and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony whereof` I affix my signature in presencemf two.withmesses.M V
ROBERT D. TUCKER.
