UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM K. HARDENBROOK, OF ALBIA, IOWA.
' IMPROVEMENT IN TRACE-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 198,295, dated December 18, 1877; application filed May 28, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLM. K. HARDEN- BROOK, of Albia, county of Monroe and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Trace-Holder, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved trace-holder. Fig. 2 is a detail section of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved device for holding the traces or tugs of a harness when detached from the Whittletrees, and which shall be so constructed as to hold the traces securely in whatever position the harness may be, and which, when not in use, will present no points or projections for the reins or the horses tail to catch upon.
The invention consists in the combination of the double hook or holder with the frame that connects theback strap, the crupper-strap, and the straps that support the breeching, as
hereinafter fully described.
In the drawing, Ais a frame which is made with a loop, a, to receive the back strap, a loop, ed, to receive the crupper-strap, and loops a to receive the straps that support the breeching. The middle part of the frame A is recessed to receive the double hook B, which forms the holder, and the central bar of which is pivoted or hinged to two lugs, a, formed upon the frame A.
When in use the cockeyes of the traces or tugs are hooked upon the hooks B, as shown in dotted lines in Figs. 1 and 2. When not in use the double hook or holder B rests in the recess of the frame A, and presents no projecting part for the reins or the horses tail to catch upon.
The double hook B may be held in place by a spring, or by the friction or spring of the lugs a.
Having thus fully described my invention, I
claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The trace-holder herein described, consisting of the frame A, having lugs a, and loops for the reception of the back crupper and breeching straps, and the double hook or holder B, hinged and adapted to fold down, all constructed and relatively arranged as and for the purpose specified.
WILLIAM K. HARDENBROOK.
