Be it known that l, Sinner; l). ti'rvues. a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of N cw York, county of New York, and State of Xew York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Calendars, fully described andrepresented in the following specification and the accompanying draw ings, forming a part of the same,

This invention relates to that class of ealeir dars in which the days of the dilierent months are indicated upon a series of leaves OISl ICCl'S so arranged that by removing one ot'the sheets at the end of each month a new sheet will be presented for the succeeding month, and so on to the end of the year, or other period for which the calendar is intended.

It is the object of the invention to produce a calendar of this general character which shall not only present a neat and attractive appearance and aiford a convenientand desirable advertising medium, but which shall also at' ford greater facilities for ascertaining the day of the week or month than have heretofore been possessed by calendars of this character.

To these ends the invention consists in various details of construction. which will be hereinafter fully explained and particularly poi nted out.

In the accom ianying drawings, Figure 1. is a plan view of a calendar embodying the present invention, the upper or outer leaf of the series being partly torn away. Fig. 2 is a central transverse vertical section of the same.

Referring to said figures,it will be seen that the calendar is composed of a series of leaves or sheets, a, each of which bears at its top the name of one of the months of the year, and around its outer edge a row of figuresor characters representing the days of saidmonth. The sheets a are secured together by means of one or more staples or other suitable fastening, b, which fastening, as shown in the present case, (which is the preferred construction,) also secures the sheets to a suitable card or backing, c. This backing, which affords a support for the calendar, may be provided with an easelleg for supporting the calendar in an upright or inclined position upon a desk or table, or with a. suitable device, as d, for suspending it against the wall of a. room.

It will usually be found most desirable to provide one of the leaves a for each month ot'theycar. A great er or less number may,however, be used. resent only a part of a month, or each leaf may bear figures representing the days of two or more months; and, if desired, a. sufticient number of leaves may be provided to make the calendar available for more than one year. The form ofthe leaves and backing is not essential. That shown, however, isdcemed pret erable.

The series of leaves (1. arranged as just de scribed, are provided with a hand or pointer, c, mounted to turn upon a small stud or bolt,

j, which passes through the center of theleaves and backing, and is provided with a nut, g, which can be advanced onto the stud, so as to hold the pointer snugly against the face of the outer leaf. As the days succeed each other the pointer will be advanced step by step, so as to always indicate the proper day, and thus a person consulting the calendar will be enabled to ascertain the day of the month without the trouble of careful scrutiny. At the end of the month the outer leaf will be torn oil, so as to display the leaf for the next month, and the nut 9 will be slightly advanced, so as to hold the pointer snugly against the face of the new leaf, and the operation will continue to herepeated until all of the leaves have been removed. The space upon the baeking 0, outside of the leaves a, may be provided with suitable ornamentation, as the border h, to give the calendar an attractive appearance, or it may contain advertising matter, or other matter giving useful or desirable information. The back of the card 0 may also be utilized in the same manner. The figures or characters indicating the days of the month may and preferably will be accompanied by the names of the days of the week, as shown, and the ures representing the Sundays will preferably be printed with a different style of type, as also shown, or in a different color, or be otherwise made readily distinguishable. These features will add both to the convenience and attractiveness of the calendar.
