To all whom, it may concern: Be it known that l, ELMER C. Manou, a citizen of the United States, and residing at Dubuque, in the county of Dubuque and State of lowa, have invented new and use-,i4 ful Improvements in Calendars, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to calendars with special reference to what are called perpet ual calendars and the object is to provide a calendar which shall display the daily date givi g the month, the day of the month and the day of the Weel: without displaying any other date and t'urther to furnish space for extensive advertisements.

ln what it consists and its mode of construction and operation will be described and .set out in the following specification when taken in connection with the drawings accompanying same and forming a part hereof.

Referring to the drawings 2 designates the base board or plate which forms not only thebaclr of the calendar but to which all the various parts are secured. lt is preferably formed of two plates or members l and 5, one of wood or other light weight material, and the other of sheet metal united together at their edges. ln this manner the rigidity o' the back is maintained and the plate is light in Weight. The front -platc d is provided with an opening 6 in its lower ond in which is displayed the names ot the months one after another. Ilfhe names of the months are printed or otherwise secured to a circular plate 8 which is pivoted between the two plates e and 5 and adapted to rotate to expose the name of a'month in the opening 6.

Inor near the longitudinal center` are secured iiat staples l0. Upon these are loosely hung thirty one cards or plates ft2 on each or" which is printed or fixed a diterent number commencing with 1 and ending at'l re resenting the days of the month.

Near the center of the under side of the cover is pivoted a 'circular plate 25 on which are printed or secured thereon7 around near the edge, thedays ot' the week, and when said plate is rotated, it displays'these dat ot' the weelt one after another through the openingst in the cover.

0n the outside of the cover is secured a plate 26 by tacks or staples 27, but this plate may also be secured by some adhesive mixture on which may be printed such advertising matter as may be desired. This plate 26 may be dispensed with and advertisements printed upon or attached to the cover in any convenient manner,

The manner of operating or using my device is substantially as follows: Starting upon the first day Jahuary with all of the cards 12 turned under the cover 15 and the first day of January occurring on Monday; then the operator sets the plate 25 so that the word Monday is displayed through the opening Q4 and also setting the plate S in such a manner that the word January appears through the opening 6. l/Vhen it becomes Tuesday the second vday of January the operator lifts the cover and turns down upon the staples 10, card number 2.or the second day card of January. r[hen rotates the plate until it registers Tuesday in the opening. 1t will then register Tuesday the second of VJanuary. Each day one more of the cards 12 is turned down over the staples 10, and the plate 26 is rotated to eXposeanothe-r day ot the week. the month and one day of the week 'is ever exposed et any one time so that it will last for a long time and not easily become soiled.

The form et construction may be modified without in any manner departing from the spirit of my invention.

Having now described my invent-ion what l claim is:

l. In a calendar, e base plate, a box cover hinged to said base plate and provided with an opening for the days of the week, a circula r plete with the days oli' the week printed thereon pivoted to the cover, staples secured at one end in the bese plate beneath the cover und the other end secured in the base plate outside oit the cover, and cards pivoted on the staples having thereon numbers designating `the days ol" the month and adapted to be turned on seid staples down against the bese plate or turned up under the cover and when turned up to be concealed from View.

2, In :i calendar, e base plate provided with en opening near its lower end, a circuler plate on the edge of which is eixed the names of the months pivoted in the base plate and when said plate is rotated on its pivot will expose the name of the months one et e time in seid opening and conceal from view the balance ol the months, staples secured in the base plate near its longitudinel center, ar box cover hinged to thefbase plate and provided with an opening, a late having thereon the names of the days o the Week pivoted to the cover and adapted to expose one of the week in the opening in the cover, and cards secured to the staples on which are fixed the days of themonth and adapted to be turned on the staples down against the base of the calendar or up under the cover, and when turned up be concealed from view1 8. In a calendar, a base plate formed of two members each of different material and provided with an opening through the front member near its lower end, a box cover pro vided with en opening and hinged to said front member, a plate secured to the outside of said cover, a circular pla'te pivoted to the under side of the cover, staples secured in the base plete beneath the cover and projecting outside of the cover, cards pivoted upon the staples and adapted to be turned up out of View under the cover, and a circular plate pivoted between the two members composing the base plate and adapted when rotated to expose the names of the months-one after the other in the opening in the front member of the base plete.
