CALENDAR.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 467,283, dated January 19, 1892.

Be it known that I, ALEXANDER FRANKLIN SITTIG, a citizen-of the United States, residing at Houston,in the countyof Harris and State of TeXas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Calendars; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to calendars.

The object of my invention is to provide a reference-calendar which will admit of a ready reference to each monthly sheet of the same.

It-is also my object to provide in a calendar of this description space for advertising a price-list or other matter, which may be printed on the back or face of the monthly sheets, and an index arranged to the same on the lower margins.

It is also my object to provide a rapid-reference monthly calendar which shall combine the advantages of the monthly and annular calendar Without the objection incident to at all times having to refer to the-latter, usually printed in small type.

My invention consists in arranging the monthly sheets of a calendar of unequal lengths bound together at the top (and perforated, if desired, for detaching same) and having the lower margin of each sheet visible, with the name of the month printed thereon.

My invention also consists in combining with a calendar of this description a price-list or other printed matter for the back or face of each monthly sheet, with an index to the subject-matter thereon printed on the lower margin.

In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a top view of my reference-calendar; and Fig. 2 is also a top plan view with one leaf turned back, showing my calendar combined with a winelist.

As shown in the drawings, the sheets are of uneven lengths, the longest leaf being the December sheet with December written on the lower margin and always in view from the face of the calendar, the neXt longest sheet being November with November written on its lower margin, and likewise in view from the face of the calendar, and so on for the preceding monthly sheet, each sheet having printed on its lower margin the name of the month.

In Fig. 2 show combined with my reference-oalendar a wine price-list, the character of the wine being noted on the lower margin of each sheet, and on the back of the sheet so marked I give the grades and prices of each assortment. The January sheet, for eX- ample, is shown turned up, revealing the grades and prices of whiskies.

As indicated in the drawings, each monthly sheet has a distinct or different color, the purpose of which is to show a variety of colors in striking contrast on the exposed margins. This adds materially to the appearance of the calendar and makes the exposed margins more conspicuous, and therefore facilitates the rapid reference to each monthly sheet or price-list.

It is evident I may use the backs or face of the monthly sheets for various advertisements or other matter and have a marginal index to each. It is also evident thatinstead of binding the monthly sheets at the top I may bind them at one side and have them of unequal width, showing the side margins instead of the bottom; but I prefer the arrangement shown.

What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isp 1.
