Be it known that I, GEORGE WV. EVANS, of Baltimore, in the county of Baltimore and State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in-Spigots; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the. same,

reference being hadto the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of my improved spigot. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the same on a horizontal plane through line 00 a: in Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the screw-plug with its detachable button.

My invention has relation to that class of spigots in which the barrel is provided with an opening forming a continuation of the spigot-tube, and closed with a removable plug, through which opening the spigot may be cleaned; and it consists in placing a button inside the removable plug, which will fit close upon the turn-plug of the spigot, as will be more fully described and claimed.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, the letter A denotes the spigottube, and B the tapering barrel which receives the turnplug. (Shown at O.) The barrel has a tubular neck or extension, D, which is screw-threaded inside to adapt it to receive a screw plug or cap, E, having a milled head, F, by means of which it may be readily removed and reinserted. The turn-plug is of the usual construction, having the inlet a, outlet or discharge end 6, and handle 0. In order to prevent lodgment of any part of the fluid in the small recesses f, formed by the fiat end of screw E in the barrel B, where this is intersected by the arm D, I insert a small button, G, made of metal or other suitable material, into the inner end of the arm or extension D, so that it (button G) will fit with its concave side (1 against the plug, as shown more clearly in Fig. 2 of the drawings, so that there is absolutely no room within the spigot for the lodgment of milk, cream, or butter globules. The tube A and extension D intersecting barrel B in a line with each other, it will be seen that by removing the screw-plug E, with its concave button G, a stick or feather may be inserted through the extension D into tube A, (the plug 0 having first been removed,) so as to clean it out thoroughly and remove anything of an obj ectionable nature that may have lodged there. The plug may be cleaned out in the same manner by constructing it with a removable screw-top, 0, made in one piece with the handle 0.

This spigot may be used with ad vantage also for dyers tanks, where the spigot is apt to be choked up by the spent wood; by sugar-refiners, in sugar-vats, where crystallization takes place in the spigot, and for a variety of other purposes.
