ORANGE E. HOLLISTER, OF OSKALOOSA, IOWA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO L. LQHULL, OF SAME PLAOE.
HARNESS.
SPECIFICATIONforming part of Letters Patent No. 235,874, dated December 28, 1880, Application filed November 13, 1880. (No model.)-
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ORANGE E. HOLLISTER, of Oskaloosa, in the county of Mahaska and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Harness; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same,
1 0 reference being had to the accompanyingdrawings, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 is afront elevation of a harness attachment embodying my improvements. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same.
Fig. 3 is a perspective View of the slotted guideplate; and Fig. 4 is a perspective of the sliding nut and securing-screw.
This invention has relation to harness attachments; and it consists in the improved features of construction and combination hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claim. 7
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, A designates a harness-saddle hav- 2 5 ing the ordinary pad-hook and rings, and B designates the skirt of the saddle, attached thereto in the ordinary manner. The skirt B is provided with loops of metal O O, riveted thereto a short distance below the rings.
0 D designates a slotted guide-plate secured to the skirt B near its lower end, one to each skirt B, as shown.
Perforated straps E E are secured to the saddle by the rings, the screwsof which pass 3 5 through said straps E E into the saddle. Auxiliary straps F F, provided with tug-loops G G, securing-loops H H, and buckles I I, are connected to the perforated straps E E by means of the bucklesI I, and sliding nuts J and securing-screws KK are employed to conneet these auxiliary straps F F to the slotted guide-plates D D, so that by taking up or letting out the straps E E the tug-loops may be raised or lowered on the skirts of the saddle.
The object of this adjustment is to adapt the 4 5 attachment to wagons, buggies, plows, or barrows, accordingly as it may become necessary to raise or lower the tugs. This arrangement will also adapt the harness to iit horses or mules of different sizes. 50.
This invention is simple and inexpensive, and its advantages are obvious.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States,
In a harness attachment, the combination, with the saddle A, having the skirts B B, of the straps E E, slotted guide-plates D D, auxiliary straps F F, having tug-loops G G and securing-loops and buckles H I, and the slidin g nuts and securing-screws J K, constructed and operating substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony that 1 claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto aflixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ORANGE E. HOLLISTER.
