UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIGE LAURENCE CARR, OF ROSEMOUNT, MINNESOTA.
IMPROVEMENT IN HAMES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. l7S,732, dated June 13, 1876; application filed March 25, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Rosenlount, in the county of Dakota and State.
of Minnesota, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Hames; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, referencebeing had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of a side elevation of my hame.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of an adjustable connection for hames, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the annexed drawing, A represents a wooden hame of substantially the usual form, except that its upper end is curved outward, so as to give the horse free and perfect use of his neck. B is the plate or iron fastened on the outer edge of the hame, and provided with the usual attachments for top-and bottom connections, and for the passage of the reins. At a suitable point on the iron B is a projecting eyebolt, a, in which is-fastened the lower end of a rod,(l,which runs parallel with the hame-iron and a short distance from it, it being connected thereto by arms b b- In the upper end of the rod 0 is a ring, E. D is the draft-clevis placed on the rod 0, and held at any point thereon by means of one or more springkeys, (I, passed through holes in the rod. By this means thedraft. may be made high or low, as required, to give the most comfort to the horse.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, with a hame and hameplate, of the stationary perforated rod- 0, adjustable draft-clevis D, and spring-keys d, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
LAURENCE CARR.
'Witnesses: UHAs. J. WILLIAMS, J. O. GERAGHTY.
