The present invention relates to a garment, and more particularly to a combinationundergarment and top shirt attachment. 7

In the use of the present type of undergarments, such as union suits, or the customary twopiece undergarment consisting of an undershirt and drawers, the top shirt worn in combination therewith must necessarily be provided with long tails which in the usual manner are tucked between the undergarment and the trouser of the wearer, not only causing discomfort, but also an increase in cost of the manufacture of the shirt.

It is therefore one of the objects of the present invention to provide a novelly constructed combined top shirt and undergarment which will overcome the aforementioned disadvantages.

A further important object of the present invention is to provide in combination with an undergarment a top shirt which may be detachably connected thereto in'such a manner as to eliminate the necessity of providing the top shirt with the usual tails.

A still further. important object of the invention is to provide in a combined underwear and top shirt garment novel means for detachably securing the topshirt to the undergarment.

A still further important object of the present invention will be found to reside in the provision in the undergarment of a two-way stretch belt- Other objects, including simplicity of design and construction, as well as low cost of manufacture, will become apparent from the description of the invention, when considered in connection with the accompanying drawings.

In the accompanying drawings, wherein, for the purpose of illustration, there is shown preferred embodiments of the invention,

Figure 1 is a front elevational view of an undergarment consisting of a combined undershirt and drawers which are provided with attaching means for securing a tailless top shirt thereto in a novel manner,

Figure 2 is a front elevational view of the top shirt adapted to be removably secured to the undergarment illustrated in Figure 1,

In the accompanying drawings, wherein, for the purpose of illustration, there is shown preferred embodiments of the invention, and in which similar reference numerals designate cor.- responding parts through out the same, the ref erence numeral l6 generally designates an undergarment'consisting of an upper undershirt portion 18 and a lower drawer portion 20 securely fastened together by the medium of a two-way stretch elastic waist-encircling band 22. In this connection, attention is specifically invited to the construction of the elastic band 22 which securely fastens the top shirt portion of the garment to the drawer portion thereof which is constructed of elastic material, and which is adapted to permit of elastic stretching of the same not only in a vertical, but also a horizontal. direction. It will be noted that by virtue of the two-way or double stretching feature of the elastic band, the wearer of the garment is permitted of free movement of the trunk or lower portion of the body in any direction desired.

As clearly illustrated in Figure 1, the waistencircling elastic band 22 is provided centrally and on the outside thereof with a plurality of spacedly disposed male fastening elements 24. The male fastening elements are of the snap fastener type, and are securely fastened to the elastic band by means of sewing the same thereon, or as shown, through the intervention of prongs extending through apertures in the band and bent in the well known manner.

Referring now to Figure 2, there is clearly shown a top shirt which is made in a novel manner, and which is adapted to be detachably secured to the undergarment illustrated in Figure 1. It will be observed that the top shirt 25 is tailless and extends to substantially the waist line, the same being provided on the front and back portions thereof adjacent the lower end. with a plurality of spacedly disposed female snap fastener elements 28, adapted to receive the male snap ing elements of the snap fasteners 24.

The male and female elements of the snap fasteners are respectively secured to the band 22, and adjacent the lower portions of the front and back of the top shirt 26 in osition to register and cooperate in the detachable and removable securing of the top shirt 2G to the undergarment I6. As will be observed in Figure 4, a tab 3!] is secured to the top shirt 26 below each female attaching element which may be readily grasped by the wearer to facilitate the disengagement of the fastener elements and the consequent removal of the top shirt from the undergarment. It is to be observed, in this connection, that the undergarment is provided with novel means for facilitating the fastening of the male and'female snap fastener elements together, this means comprising, as clearly illustrated in Figures 1 and 4, an aperture or finger-receiving hole in the drawer portion of the undergarment directly below each 'male snap fastener element.

When it is desired to wear the top shirt, in combination with the undergarment, illustrated in Figure 1, the top shirt is put on in the usual manner, and the registering snap fastener elements securely fastened together in a novel manner, as illustrated in Figure 9. The index finger being extended through the apertures 34 directly below the male fastener elements, the thumb being placed on top of the female attaching elements and upon application of pressure the same being subsequently snapped together. When it is desired to remove the top shirt, the snap fastener elements may be disengaged by a slight upward and outward pulling of the respective tab 30.

It will thus be seen that there is provided a novelly constructed undergarment, which permits of the detachable connection of a novelly constructed top shirt eliminating the necessity of the wearer being troubled with the usual tail portion generally provided in the present and well known type of shirt. In this connection, it is to be observed that the elastic band not. only permits of free movement of the top shirt with respect thereto, but has an additional function of permitting of free movement in any direction without discomfortto the wearer of the trunk portion of the body.

Attention is now specifically directed to Figures 6 to 9, inclusive, wherein there is shown a modified form of the invention in which the top shirt 26 is directly detachably secured to the drawer portion of an undergarment. To the waist line of the drawers 38 there is securely fastened by stitching or otherwise the two-way stretch elastic band 22 having, as described with respect to Figures 1 to 5, inclusive, thereon the male attach- There are times when one desires to Wear merely the drawer portion of an undergarment, such for example in athletic activities and the like, and it has been found that it is desirable to eliminate the necessity of wearing a top undershirt, and by virtue of the modified form of the invention illustrated in Figures 6 to 9, inclusive, the novelly constructed top shirt may be directly detachably connected to the underdrawers. The top shirt 26 is of the same construction as illustrated and described with respect to Figure 2, the same being provided with the female attaching elements of the snap fasteners which receive the male attaching elements 22 and are connected and detached therefrom in the usual manner. Similarly the top shirt 26 is provided with the removing tabs 30 and the drawers 38 with the finger-receiving aperture 34 facilitating the attaching and removing of the top shirt from the drawers. Figures 8 and 9 show the top shirt 26 in position on the drawers 38.

While there is shown for the purpose of illustration preferred embodiments of the invention, it is to be understood that it is capable of further changes and modifications without departing from the spirit and scope thereof, and it is contended, therefore, that only such limitations shall be imposed thereon as are indicated in the prior art or in the appended claims.

What is claimed is:

1. In combination, a top shirt, an undergarment,-means for removably securing said top shirt to said undergarment, comprising a plurality of spacedly disposed female snap fastener elements secured to the outer portion of said top shirt at the waist line thereof, tabs secured to said top shirt below said female fastener elements, a plurality of spacedly male snap fastener elements on said undergarment adapted to be received by said female snap elements for removably securing said top shirt to said undergarment, said undergarment adjacent said male fastener elements being provided with finger-receiving apertures permitting of the insertion of a finger, facilitating the connecting of said fastener elements.

2. In combination, a tailless top shirt, an undergarment, having a two-Wayv stretch elastic waist-encircling band secured thereto, a plurality of spacedly disposed fastener elements on said top shirt adjacent the waist line thereof, a plurality of spacedly disposed cooperating snap fastening elements secured on said elastic band whereby said top shirt may be removably secured to said elastic band, tabs secured to said top shirt adjacent said snap fastener elements, said undergarment adjacent the snap fastener elements on said elastic band being provided with finger-receiving apertures to facilitate the connecting of said fastener elements.
