` GARMENT Filed Jan. 15, 19150 Patented July 22, 193
PATE N1' OFFICE SAMUEL GOLDSTEIN, OF HICAGO, ILLINOIS GARMENT vApplication iled January 13, 1930. Serial No. 420,518.
'lhis invention relates to garments and its object is to provide a combination of vest and trousers as a single garment of simple construction, neat and attractive in appearance, and comfortable wearing. f
Another object of the invention is to provide a garment in which a pair of vest sections are pe 'manently fastened at the sides of the waist-band ofa pair of trousers and adapted to be buttoned in the usual manne-r at the front with a belt arranged in the usual manner upon the trousers and adapted to be fastened and unfastened and adjusted witl out interference by the belt sections.
In the accompanying drawings illustrating a selected embodiment ofthe invention 1 isa front view with the vest sections unbuttoned. l
Fig. 2 is a side view. v
F ig. 3 is an enlarged sectional View on the line 3+?) of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings 5 designates the trousers, 6, 6 the vest sections and 7 the belt. rlhe vest sections comprise the two front portions of the vest which are `provided with button-holes 8 and buttons 9 to fasten the sections together at the front in the usualmanner. These sections are smaller than the front sectionsof an ordinary vest because they do not extend up to the shoulders and are intended only to cover the front half of the waist of the wearer. rlhey may be made in various shapes and designs to suit different tastes and, of course, they may be made of any materials desired. The belt 7 is engaged with the usual loops 10 sewed to the trousers at the waistband, it may be of any kind suitable for the purpose, and it is adaptf ed to be used in the ordinary way. The rear edges of the vest sections are fastened to the trousers at the waist-band at' Il above the lbelt and at 12 below thel belt, leaving that portion of the rear edges which overlapsthe trousers, but between the fastened parts they form loops to accommodate the belt so that it can be adjusted without drawing or wrinkling or otherwise disturbing the vest sections.
My invention provides a garment of simple construction which is neat and attractive in appearance and comfortable to wear. The garment can be put on and taken olf like a pair of trousers and the vest sections can be buttoned and unbuttoned like a vest. The vest sections answer the purpose of concealing the waist-band and the belt of apair of trousers to present a pleasing appearance for wear` particularly in the summer time and in warm climates. The garment can be made up for dress wear, for sports wear and for ordinary wear; it can be made of any v suitable material and in any shape or design.
Many summer suits are sold without vests because a vest of the usual construction would make the suit too warm; but with my invention the summer suit has all the advantages of a three-piece suit without the disad-` vantages of'a separate vest. Sometimes the shirt works up and folds over the top of the trousers presenting an unattractivev and sometimes unsightly appearance. My invention tends to hold the trousers snugly upon the waist of the wearer and keeps the shirt from working up and forms a covering` at and above the top of the trousers to conceal any looping of the shirt that may occur.
I have shown the invention in the drawings in a simple form which illustrates the invention sufficiently to enable it to be readily understood, but I reserve the right to make any changes therein which may be necessary or desirable within the scope of the following claims.
I claim:
1. In a garment, a pair of trousers having belt loops at the upper end thereof through which a belt may be passed, in combination with vest sections having the rear edges thereof secured at the sides of the trousers on eachside of the belt to provide other belt loops, said vest sections having detachable fastening means at the front free edges thereof.
2. In a garment, a pair of trousers having belt loops at the upper end thereof through which e belt may be passed, in combination With truncated substantially triangular Vest sections having the narrower of the parallel edges thereof secured to the sides of the trousers and having portions of the other of the parallel edges disposed to extend above the upper edge of the trousers, and detachable fastening ineens for joining said' lest'named edges of said vest sections.
SAMUEL GOLDSTEIN.
