This invention relates in general to a combination corset and brassiere, and more particularly to such a. garment wherein the brassire is posi-.

' and the lower edges of the brassiere and upper edge of the corset are separable so as to provide substantially the same freedom for movement of the body as obtains from use of corsets, girdles or hip confiners and entirely separate brassires,

One object of my invention is to provide a combination garment of this character wherein the brassire shall be separably connected to the upper edge of the front of the corset as by buttons or other separable fasteners, and novel and improved means shall be provided for fastening the rear end portions of the brassiere to the corset, whereby there shall be a minimum ofprotuberances or projections to produce unsightly bulges beneath thin outer garments or dresses, especially at the waist-line.

Another object is to provide such a combination garment including novel and improved means for connecting the rear end portions of the brassiere to the rear of the corset so as to provide constant yielding composite downward and rearward and circumferential tension on the bras-- siere to produce a snug fit of the brassiere, hold the brassiere against riding upwardly on the figure, and prevent the lower rear edges of the brassiere from becoming spaced from the upper rear edge of the corset in such a manner as to become uncomfortable and produce an unsightly appearance beneath a thin outer garment. Other objects are to provide a combination garment of the character described embodying novel and improved features of construction wherein the lower edges of the rear end portions of the brassire shall be connected by elastic straps to the rear of the corset adjacent the hipline to securely yieldingly hold the brassire in proper position; to provide such a garment wherein said straps shall cross each other adjacent and below the rear upper edge of the corset and be held at the point of crossing in snug contact with the corset, be prevented from vertical movement relative to each other and. the corset and yet be free for movement circumferentially of the body to accommodate bending and turning movements of the latter; and to obtain other results and advantages as will be brought out by the following description.

Specifically describing the illustrated embodi- 20 ment of the invention, the reference character A designates generally a corset, girdle or hipconfiner garment which may be of any suitable construction. Preferably as shown, this section is of the step-in type and is formed of elastic 25 woven fabric. When the section A is applied to the body the upper edge I thereof is located at approximately the waist-line.

In accordance with the invention, a brassiere section B is separably attached to the upper edge 30 portion of the corset section A. This brassiere circle the body With the rear end portions 3 at 3577 approximately the center of the back. The lower edge portion of the front of the brassire is separably connected to the upper edge portion of the front of the corset by any suitable means, preferably by buttons 4 secured to the corset 40 section A which cooperate with button-holes 5 in the brassiere section B. The brassiere section has the usual elastic shoulder straps 6 each of which has one end connected to the front portion 2 of the brassire at one side and the other 45 end connected to the upper edge of one rear end portion 3.

The lower edge of each rear end portion 3 of the brassiere has connected thereto one end of an elastic strap I, the other end of which is separably connected to the rear of the corset section at approximately the hip-line. The elastic straps I extend downwardly from the brassiere section in crossed relation, and are threaded through a keeper loop 8 which is secured at approximately the middle of the rear upper edge portion of the corset section A. The elastic straps 1 may be connected to the corset by any suitable means, but preferably the ends of the 5 straps have buttons in attached thereto to cooperate with button-holes II on tabs l2 which are secured to the corset as by stitching l3.

In donning the garment the brassire section B is attached by the buttons and button-holes l 4 and 5 to the upper edge of the corset section A and the straps I are disconnected from the tabs l2. The corset section is then slipped on and the shoulder straps 6 applied over the shoulders of the wearer, after which the buttons ll] of the 15 elastic straps I are connected to the button-hole tabs I2 of the corset. Generally, the elastic straps 1 need not be removed from the keeperloop 8, but if they are so removed while donning the garment the straps are threaded through the 20 loop 8 in crossed relation before they are connected to the button-hole tabs.

With this construction, the elastic straps I maintain a constant yielding downward and rearward and circumferential tension on the lower edge portions of the brassire, which holds the brassire in snug contact with the body and prevents it from riding upwardly over the upper edge of the corset. At the same time, however, the straps 1 permit movement of the rear end Q-portions of the brassiere circumferentially of ""the body to accommodate twisting and bending movements of the body. The keeper loop 8 assists in holding the straps and rear end portions of the brassiere from lateral separation from the -corset, and also assists in preventing the rearend portion of the brassiere from riding upwardly. With the straps extending diagonally downwardly across the rear of the corset and attached to the corset at approximately the hip-line, no

40 projections are present which would cause unsightly protuberances or ridges to appear beneath a thin outer garment, such as a dress, especially at the waist-line. Complete freedom of movement of the body is permitted, and separation of 45 the edges of the brassire and corset is prevented so as to avoid discomfort and unsightly ridges beneath a thin garment. The brassiere can be easily and quickly detached from and attached to the corset section for any desired pur- 50 pose, for example, to permit laundering of the garment, or interchangeable wearing of a brassiere section or corset section with other corset sections and brassire sections respectively, or the wearing of the corset independently of the 55 brassire. The rear end portions 3 may be disposed in spaced relation at the middle of the back, and are constantly influenced downwardly by the straps 1 so that the garment may be worn with extremely low open back dresses without exposing the brassiere, and if necessary to comfort or appearance the lower edge portions of the rear end portions 3 of the brassire may be partially pulled through the keeper loop as shown in Figure 5. This construction also permits 65 adaptation of the brassiere to busts of different sizes, the straps I being elongated for large busts and contracted or shortened for smaller busts.

While I have shown and described my invention as embodied in certain details of construc- 70 tion, it should be understood that this is primarily for the purpose of illustrating the principles of the invention and many modifications and changes may be made in the details of structure without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:

1. A combination garment comprising a corset and a brassiere having a front portion and rear end portions, said front portion having its lower edge in separably attached and overlying relation to the upper edge portion of the front 10 of the corset and each rear end portion having one end of an elastic strap connected thereto adjacent the lower edge thereof, said straps extending downwardly in cross relation across the rear of the corset and the other ends of said straps and said corset having cooperating separable fastener elements for connecting the straps to the rear of the corset at approximately the hip-line thereof, and a keeper loop secured on said corset at the middle of the rear upper edge thereof through which keeper loop saidelastic straps are threaded.

2. A combination garment comprising a corset and a brassire having a front portion and rear end portions, said front portion having its 5 lower edge attached to the upper edge portion of the front of the corset and each rear end portion having one end of an elastic strap connected thereto at the lower edges of said rear end portion, said straps crossing each other adjacent and below the upper edge of said corset and being separably connected at their other ends to the rear of the corset and means connected to said corset at approximately the middle of the rear upper edge thereof and engaging said crossed portions of said straps for limiting vertical movement of said end portions of the brassire relative to each other and the corset and permitting movement of said end portions and straps circumferentially of the body.

3. A combination garment comprising a corset and a brassiere having a front portion and rear end portions, said front portion having its lower edge attached in separably and overlying relation to the upper edge portion of the front of the corset and each rear end portion having one end of an elastic strap connected thereto at the lower edge thereof, said straps crossing each other adjacent and below the upper edge of said corset and being separably connected at their other ends to the rear of the corset, and a keeper loop secured to said corset at approximately the middle of the rear upper edge portion of the corset through which loop said elastic straps are threaded.

4. A combination garment comprising a corset and a brassiere having a front portion and rear end portions, said front portion having its lower edge attached to the upper edge portion of the front of the corset and each rear end portion having one end of an elastic strap connected thereto at the lower edges of said rear end portion, said straps crossing each other adjacent and below the upper edge of said corset p and being separably connected at their other ends to the rear of the corset adjacent the hip line thereof, and a keeper loop secured to said corset at approximately the middle of the rear upper edge portion of the corset through which loop said elastic straps are slidable.
