Description
T. A. H. CAMERON.
PORTABLE FENCE.
Patented Feb. 22,1876.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
' TILMON A. H. CAMERON, OF PETRA, MISSOURI.
IMPROVEMENT lN PORTABLE FENCES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 73,8 54. "ned February 22, 1876; application filed September 25,1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I,T1LMON A. H. CAMERON, of Petra, in the county of Saline and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Portable Fence, of which the following is a specification:
Figure l is a side view of a portion of a picket-fence illustrating my invention. Fig. 2 is a crossseotion of the same, taken through the line .10 m, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a side view of a portion of a board or plank fence illustrating my invention. Fig. 4 is a cross-section of the same, taken through the line y y, Fig. 3.

' The invention will first be described in connection with drawing, and then pointed out in the claim.
The panels of the'picket fence are formed by inserting and securing the pickets A in holes inthe top and bottom rails B (3-; The adjacentends of the top and bottom rails B G of the contiguous panels are overlapped, and through them are passed round pickets D, which have heads formed upon their upper ends to prevent them from dropping through the said rails. The locking pickets D may be secured in place by a pin passing through their lower ends or byother convenient means. The panels of the fence may be set in line with .each other or at any desired angle. The panels are supported away from the ground by the device E F, in which E is a sill, the middle part of the upper edge of which is notched to receive the bottom rail 0 of the panel, and the ends of which are secured to the braces F,
near their lower ends. The braces F incline inward, and cross each other near their upper ends, and are secured to each other by a bolt.
The braces F are made of such a length that the top rail B of the panel may rest inthe angle between the upper ends of the said braces, as shown in Fig. 2. The projecting lower ends of the braces F rest upon the ground, and serve as feet to support the fence.
readily removed from the panel, and can then be compactly folded for transportation or storage, the other bolts acting as pivots.
Having thus described my invention, I claim ,as new and desire to secure by Letter Pat-ente y The combination of panels connected by picket D, the cross-brace E F, and the bar G, pivoted on the same bolt as the brace, and resting on lower rail, as shown and described, for the purpose specified.
TILMON A. H. CAMERON.
