Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSIAH V. RICHARDSON, OF TUOKERMAN, ARKANSAS, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND R. E. RICHARDSON, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN FENCES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. [9 1.176, dated August 14. 1877; application file June 18, 1877.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOSIAH V. Brennan- SON, ofTnckerman,J ackson county,Arkansas,
have invented a new'and Improved Fence, of which the following is a specification Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved fence. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the.cornor-pieces; and Fig. 3 is a transverse section on line as m, Fig. l.
The invention relates to the construction of the fence-panels, and the application of a clamp for securing them together, whereby they are made to form a line of continuous self-supportin g fence, as hereinafter described.
In the drawings, A A are posts, to which the horizontal fence-boards B are attached by means of nails or screws. These posts are placed on opposite sides of the boards forming thepanels, near their ends, anda short horizontal piece,'O, is attached to the lower end of the posts.
A diagonal brace, D, is attached to the outer end of the piece U, and also to the top of the post A. These posts and braces, being placed on opposite sides of the boards composing the panel, give it a firm bearing on the ground, and also facilitate packing the sections or panels when they are stored or loaded for transportation from place to place.
The overlapping ends of the panels are fastened together by a notched piece, E, which clamps the sections securely.
The ends of the boards forming the cornerpanels are notched, as shown in Fig. 2, so that the boards interlock when connected together to form a corner.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The locking device E, in combination with the panels composed of the boards B and triangular posts A G D, attached to the-ends of the latter, on opposite sides thereof, as shown and described, whereby panels may be secured together to form acontinuons line of self-supporting fence.
JOSIAH V. RICHARDSON.
Witnesses: I
J. W. SHAVER, W. U. SHAVER.
