c. E. ANDERSON CIGARETTE HOLDER Filed'March 17, 1924 Patented Dec. 2, 1924.
s'rarss ATENT CIGARETTE HOLDER.
Application filed March 17, 1924. Serial No. 699,935.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES E. ANDER- SON, a citizen of the United States residing at Sioux Falls. in the county of-Minnehaha and State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Cigarette Holders; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear,;and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
' My invention relates to improvements in cigarette holders of the type embodying a finger-ring and a cigarette holding clamp thereon, such devices being advantageous for numerous. reasons, as they allow the fingers of the hand'holding the cigarette to be entirely free for use.
The principal object of the invention is to provide an extremely simple and inexpensive device of the class set forth, in which the clamp for the cigarette, is held in operative position by a clamp-applying member which engages the finger upon which the ring is placed.
With the foregoing in view, the invention resides in the novel subject matter here- 'inafter described and claimed, the descrip tion being supplemented by the accompanying drawing. 1
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the use of the invention.
Figure 2 isa vertical sectional view! Figure 3 is a vertical section at right.an gles to Fig.' 2,.as indicated by lines 3-45 thereof.
' In the form of construction selected for illustration in the present application, a finger-ring 1 is provided, having two ends bent laterally outward to :Eorm ears, as in dicated by the. numerals 2. Secured to these cars, I have shown a shank 3 carrying a curved :jaw 4 to contact with one side of-a' cigarette, while pivoted at 5, between the ears 2, is a second shank 6 carrying a second curved jaw 7 to engage the other side of the .-cigarette. Extending laterally from the lower end of the shank 6, a clamp-applying arm 8 has been shown, said arm beingadapt- I ed to contact with the finger upon which the ring 1 is placed, so as to swing the clamp jaw 7 inwardly toward the jaw 4 and hold the cigarette firmly in place. 9
When the use of the device is not needed,
it is removed from the finger and the arm 8 is thus released to free the jaw 7, thus permitting the cigarette butt to drop from the device.
- The article is exceptionally simple and inexpensive, yet is very desirable, and as excellent results have been obtained from the details disclosed, such-details are preferably followed. However, within the scope of the invention as claimed, numerous minor changes may be made.
I claim:
1. In a cigarette holder comprising a clamp for the cigarette and a'finger-ring "carrying said clamp; a clamp-applying member operatively associated with said clamp and adapted to contact with the fin'- ger upon which the ring is placed, to hold said clamp in operative position.
2. A cigarette holder comprising a fingerring having relatively fixed and movable cigarette-holding jaws, and a clamp-applying member connected with one of said jaws and extending laterally from said fingerring to move said one jaw towardnthe other jaw, said member being adapted to contact '80 with the finger upon which the ring is placed 3. A cigarette holder comprising a fingerring, a stationary jaw projecting therefrom,
amovable jaw co-operable with said stationary jaw in holding a cigarette, means pivotally mounting said movabl jaw onsaid ring, and an arm extending from said movable jaw and adapted to contact with the finger upon which the ring is placed, whereby to hold said movable jaw in operative position. v I
4. A; cigarette holder comprising a ring havingapair of spaced radial cars, a stationary jawhaving a portion secured to said cars, a movable aw having a shank pivoted between said ears, and an arm extending laterally from said shank and adapted to contact with the finger upon which thering is placed to swing said shank to a position to apply said movable jaw.
In testimony whereof Iha-ve hereunto affixed my signature. a
' CHAR-Lbs E. ANDERSON.
