JOSEPH GOLDSMITH, JR., OF G HCAGO, LLINOIS.
HAIR-CURLING DEVICE.
Application led August S, 1922.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that l, ,losnrn Gornsrrrrrr, Jr., a citizen of the United Sta-tes, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of illinois, have invented a certain new and useful improvement in Hair-Curling Devices, of which the following is a specification.
rThis invention relates to an improvement in hair curlers, the object of which is to provide a simple and eilicient device which is very eifective in operation.
A further object of this invention is to provide a device for curling.y crimping and waving the hair, which will most effectively hold the hair placed in it, so that when removed the hair is formed in waves in the most desirable manner and appearance.
lVith these and other objects which may hereinafter appear, in view, I have devised the particular arrangement of parts hereafter set forth and more particularly pointed out in the claim appended hereto.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part hereof, in
which Figure l is a front elevation ofmy improved hair curler; parts of the same being shown in section to disclose construction;
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the same;
Figure 3 is a sectional view on the line 3 3 of Figure l, looking in the direction of the arrows; and :e
Figure l is a plan view of my improved hair curler, showing the manner in which the same is used.
rlhroughout the various views of the drawings. similar reference characters designate similar parts.
In the preferred embodiment of my invention, as disclosed in the accompanying drawing I have shown the device made from a single piece of wire of required stiffness, which forms the frame and co-operates with an elastic member.
The frame of wire is preferably made from a single piece, cut to length and bent as shown, having a pair of longitudinal side members l and 2 which. gradually extend towards one another. At the end wherethese members l and 2 are situated furthest apart is provided an inwardly bent portion,
Serial No. sectas.
3 which forms a recess l which is adapted to receive one end of an elastic member 9 as ity thereto and also tends to cover the joint the frame, or the point where the two ends of the stri p of wire come together. The
frame extends beyond the sleeve 5 and ter ininates in a pair of spaced-apart loops 5 between which is an oppositely disposed loop .7 which forms the recess 8 for the reception of the elastic band 9.
the fact th base than at its end so that the possibility of Attention is called to at the loop 7 is narrower at its the elastic member becoming detached from the frame is avoided, but permit-ting the elastic band to be removed from the frame for replacement when breakage occurs.
When in use, the device appears as shown in Figure 4l wherein it will be seen that the strand of hair lO to be curled is spirally wenn d upon the frame and the elastic band 9 is then stretched between the recesses l and 8 so that it clamps the spirally wound strand down on the frame.
From the foregoing it is obvious that my invention is not to be restricted to the enact embodiment shown, but is broad enough to come within the scope of the annexed claim.
An article of the class described comprising an elongated wire frame having a pair of side members. said side members being connectel together at one end and inwardly bent to form a recess, a sleeve surrounding said side members adjacent their opposite end, with portions of said side members eX- tending beyond the sleeve to form a pair of spaced apart loops extending in one direction and a.
central loop between said iirst mentioned loops, said central loop extending in a direction opposite to the spaced apart loops. and
an elastic member adapted to be stretched between the central loop and the recess in the opposite end of the frame.
New York,
Signed at the city, county and State of this 3rd day of August, 1922. JOSEPH. GOLDSMFH, Je.
