srrnvs DAVIT. I
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented. At g. 31, 1920,
, Application filed June 30,1920. Serial No. 392,998.
tain new and useful,Improvements in' Ships Davits, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to ships davits and it has for its object to connect the crank to the operating screw moving the boom inboard and out-board, 'sc that when the'cran'k is not in use it can be moved to" a position which 13 out of the way, and stlll be connected with the operating screw.
1 will describe a ships davit' embodying my invention and then point out the novel features in a claim. 1
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a ships davitwith a crank connected with the operating screw thereof in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a detail view but-drawn to a larger scale of the crank and its connection and embodying my invention. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the device shown in Fig; 2 but in a plane at right angles thereto. Figs and 5 are cross sectional views taken on the lines %4 and 5-5 of 2.
Similar reference characters designate corresponding parts in all of the figures.
A type of ships davit to which my invention is applicable. and parts of which are shown in Fig. 1, is shown in U. S. Patents Nos. 1,123,132 and 1,245,? 52 granted to T. H. Martin, December 2 1, 1914, and November 6.1917 respectively, to which reference for further details of construction and operation may be had.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates a suitable frame or support, 2 a boom or crane; 3 a truck or carrlage movable on the frame and on which the boom 2 is pivotallymounted; 4 an operating member, here shown as a screw for moving the truck 3 to and fro on the frame, and 5 a crank which is connected with the screw 4 as hereinafter described. I V
6 designates a socket which is provided with a recess to receive the end-of the screw and in which it is held by a bolt and nut 7 (see Fig. 4). It is also provided with a vertically extending passage or recess 8 to receive a portion of the crank 5 and this portion of the crank is retained in the recess or passage by a screw, rivet or provided with a recess- 10 in which the bent other fastening. device 9 (see Fig. 5). The socket is further 7 by the socket 6 may be employed if necessary to hold the end 11 in the recess 10 (see F-igs. 2 and The socket is also provlded with a recess 12, at right angles to the Te cess 10 in which the end 11 of the crank fits when the crank is not in use. The end 11 is made to occupy this recess by raising the crank in the socket (see dotted lines Fig. 2), turning the crank 90 degrees, and then lowering the end 11 into the recess 12 as shown in dotted lines in Figs. 1 and 2. In this position the crank-is out of the way but is still 7 connected with the screw, and .ready for use I by reverslng the operation ust descr1bed.
hat I claimas my invention is:
In asliips davit in combination with the boom, an operating screw, a crank, and a connectlonbetween the crank and screw comprising a socket fixed to the screw in which the crank'i's vertically movable, and
said socket being provided with two recesses in either of which the end of the crank may be placed. I V
