[Class 114] In a rowlock as claimed in the parent Specification, a socket is provided in the gunwale so as to receive the shank of the oar-engaging element in its operative position and to permit the same to have a purely swivelling movement, while a fixed or pivoted slotted guide is disposed on the inner side of the gunwale to permit the rowlock to be stowed inboard in a lower position. In the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the gunwale 14 is provided with a socket 20 located directly beneath the enlarged outer end 12 of the transverse slot 15a, while the shank of the oar engaging element 21 is provided with a larger diameter portion 24 above a reduced extension 22, the portion 24 in the operative position of the rowlock working in the end 12 of the slot and permitting a swivelling movement of the rowlock. To remove the rowlock to its inboard portion, the element 21 is lifted, the shank 22 passed transversely along the slot 15a, until the enlarged foot 23 engages within a vertical channel 17 formed in a side plate 16, when the rowlock may be lowered as shown in chain and dotted lines, Fig. 2, with the shank 22 projecting through a vertical slot 18 in the plate 16. In a modification, Fig. 3, the side plate 16 is replaced by a vertical guide 30 which is engageable by the reduced shank 34 of the rowlock and is capable of hinging about trunnions 29 so as to be brought into an horizontal position in alignment with the slot 27 to facilitate movement of the rowlock to its operative or inoperative position as desired.
