ALEXANDER H. SCHLESINGER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
PORTABLE FENCE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J an. 1, 1918.
Application filed May 26, 1915. Serial No. 30,567.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALEXANDER H. SCI-ILESINGER, a citizen of the United States, residingat New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Fences, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to fences and has special reference to a fence for a poultry yard, or, as it is commonly called and known, a poultry run.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a readily portable device of this character which can be easily transported from place to place and the dimensions of which may be varied according to the required circumstances, both in length and breadth as necessity may require.
A second object of the invention is the provision of a fence section for a device of this character, wherein a bracing effect will be obtained in one section which will counteract and resist the stresses of eachadjacent section.
WVith these general objects in view and others that will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and then claimed.
In the drawings forming a part of this application and in which like designating characters refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views Figure 1 is a perspective view of a chicken or poultry yard or run constructed in accordance with this invention.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation showing how any side may be enlarged.
Fig. 3 is a detail of one of the fastenings.
In carrying out the preferred embodiment of the invention, there is provided a series of side and rear sections A and a front section B.
Each section A consists of a rectangular frame consisting of top and bottom members 10 and 11 respectively and end members 12 which are braced together by diagonal braces 13 so arranged that, when the sections are in position, the proximal ends of the braces abut and prevent fieXure in either direction of the members 12. Moreover, the connections for the various members consist Copies of this patent may be obtained for of bolts 14 passing through openings 15 arranged to aline when the members are juxtaposed and equally spaced from the adjacent ends of the braces so that the bending stresses on the members 12 are equally distributed and thereby a maximum of strength with a minimum of connections is assured. The side and rear sections wherein a door is not used are provided with the vertical braces 19 disposed intermediate of the ends of the diagonal braces.
In the front sections, indicated at B,there are two vertical braces 19 wherein is provided a hinged door frame 16. All of the frames and door being covered at the bottom by a fine wire net 17 to prevent the escape of young chickens and at the top by a coarse mesh net 18 to prevent the older chickens from escaping.
It will be observed that the device can be quickly set up and may have its size and proportions regulated. readily as desired. Moreover, when assembled, a stiff and stable structure is pro ided.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A poultry run consisting of a series of rectangular frames each covered with a fine and coarse wire mesh, each of the frames being bolted at its ends to adjacent frames to form a rectangular structure, the arrangement being such that added units may be included to increase the size of the run, and each of the frames having diagonally arranged corner braces identically positioned whereby the braces of one frame oppose those of the adjacent frames, the side and rear frames being provided with vertical braces disposed intermediate of the ends of the diagonal braces, whereby to stabilize the wire meshes throughout practically their entire area, the front frame being provided with two vertical braces forming a doorway and adoor swingingly mounted therebetween, and all of the frames having their lower edges in the same plane and resting directly on the ground.
In testimony whereof I afliX my signatur in presence of two witnesses.
ALEXANDER H. SCHLESINGER.
