To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, Jus'rron H. CLEAR and FRANCES CLEAR RICHVILLE, citizens of the United States, residing at Clarkston, in

the county of Asotin and State of Washing- .ton, have invented certain new and useful to provide a boot which may be put on over the ordinary stockings and which will serve ings being torn or worn through, but also as aprotective covering to prevent 1n ury to the childs limbs, such as might be occasioned by splinters.

lhe article embodying the present invention is, as will be understood from the foregoing, designed primarily for use by children just learning to crawl and the article is not intended, nor is it adapted for use, as awalking or outdoor boot, its sole purposebeing to protect the ordinary stockings and the childs limbs.

. lit is another aim of the invention to provide an article of footwear of the type mentioned which will be comfortable and yet su'ficiently heavy to protect the childs limbs I from drafts, and further to so construct the article that it may be readily applied and removed although not liable to become accidentally displaced after application.

invention includes a foot portion having a b flexible vamp 1, of leather or other suitable material, a flexible counter or heel portion 2, preferably of the same material, and a flexible sole 3 which is also preferably of the same material. Each of the portions 1, 2 and -3 is formed from a one-piece blank and the blanks are assembled and stitched in the manner clearly illustrated in the drawings. The article further includes a legging portion 4 which is preferably of heavy canvas or duck, although any other suitable cloth material may be used if found desirable. The legging portion 4 is permanently connected at its lower end within the counter and vamp portions of the foot of the article and the said legging portion, at its forward side, is considerably higher than at its rear side so that the upper front portion thereof, indicated at 5, will serve effectually as a covering for the childs knees, thereby affording protection to the childs stockings and also protection against splinters. The rear portion of the legging 4 being terminated, at its upper end, a considerable distance below the upper edge of the forward portion of the legging, the article will not bind the limbs, but will be comfortable to wear and permit entire freedomof movement.

In order that the article may be supported in place, it is provided with two supporting straps 6 which are preferably of elastic and which are secured at their lower ends at opposite sides of the portion 5 at the upper edge of the legging. The straps 6 are led upwardly toward each other and have their upper endsunited, as at 7, a small loop 8 being formed, through which may be inserted the bar of a safety pin 9 or the corresponding part of any other suitable attaching element or device.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
